Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint a highly motivated registered nurse with proven clinical skills in respiratory nursing to join a well-developed and supportive multidisciplinary ILD team within a nationally commissioned service. We work closely with our colleagues at Kings Hospital with a tertiary referral service known as Kings Health Partners (KHP-ILD service). You will be based at both the Guy's and St. Thomas' sites and a recent merge with The Royal Brompton Hospital brings the possibility of working closely with other ILD teams in the future.

This role requires the post holder to have demonstrable specialist clinical skills related to holistically caring for respiratory patients, with a special interest in interstitial lung disease.

Closing Date: 12th May 2024

Interview Date: 23rd May 2024

Main duties of the job

As a CNS you will review patients within both outpatient and inpatient settings. This may range from oxygen assessment, symptom management and palliative support in our nurse-led clinics. In addition, you will be required to contribute to the education of the chest clinic, ward and community staff to enhance knowledge and current management of respiratory diseases, including monitoring of long term and ambulatory oxygen, advice and administration of cytotoxic medications, biologics and immunosuppression.

The role also requires you to support patients with palliative needs, advising and supporting patients and their families and liaising closely with community palliative care services to ensure continuity of care.

You will transfer, apply and develop your nursing knowledge and skills to ensure that the quality of care and the needs of adults with ILD are met in accordance to current national and Trust guidelines. You must be organised, confident and have excellent communication skills to enable you to liaise effectively with the MDT and work with a diverse and varied group of patients and carers. You will be integral in working alongside the Lead CNS with service development.

There are also opportunities to be involved with research in the department. Experience in an outpatient setting or with ILD is not essential, but evidence of your clinical skills, respiratory experience and a willingness to learn must be demonstrable.
