Job summary
Targeted Lung Health Check (TLHC) is a new and ground-breaking programme of work in England which will contribute to the ambition of the NHS Long Term Plan to improve early diagnosis of lung cancer and survival for those diagnosed with lung cancer. NHSE has recently confirmed that the TLHC programme will become a new national screening programme. The programme is being offered to those most at risk of developing lung cancer, people aged 55 to 74 year old who have ever smoked. We are seeking to recruit an experienced nurse to join the team during this exciting period of expansion of the programme across South East London. Main duties of the job
- Meet and greet patients attending their CT appointment at our mobile site
- Provide leadership and supervise junior staff as the nurse in charge of the mobile unit
- Ensure the safety of members of the public and staff members visiting the community sites
- Ensure respiratory equipment is in working order and calibrated as per policy
- Perform basic observations (height, weight, O2 saturations)
- Assess smoking history and perform CO2 measurements as appropriate
- Offer very brief smoking cessation advice and onward referral to local services
- Assess eligibility for and perform spirometry. As part of the role you will be supported to become certified by the ARTP in spirometry performance and interpretation (if not already)
- Ensure that appropriate action is taken when clinical findings are identified as part of the assessment for eligibility and during any add-on investigations such as spirometry and assessing cardiovascular risk.
- Take action on clinical findings and act as a resource for escalation within the team in a timely manner
- Ensure clinical data and information are entered into the appropriate clinical system with a focus on data completeness
- As the service expands, there may be opportunity to support the CNS/DCNS in clinic and MDM preparation, action and follow up including referrals from MDM, as well as partake in eligibility assessment which may include telephone clinics or remote working
- Occasional rotation to the respiratory outpatients departments at Guys & St Thomas'

You will see patients in the mobile clinics across South East London, and will be able to travel between locations. You will have great oral and written communication skills, and will work collaboratively with our partners to deliver the programme to high standards. You will be comfortable learning and working with various IT systems, to ensure data quality is maintained and documentation is complete. Patient experience will be a high priority, you will have a passion for ensuring patients have a positive experience and will seek opportunities to improve patient experience where possible. The successful candidate will be flexible as we work towards providing a 7 day service across multiple sites and be willing to work within the London boroughs across South East London and across Guys and St Thomas' sites. As the service continues to grow and develop, you will embrace change, have a positive outlook, and contribute your own knowledge and experience towards the improvement and expansion of the service. The successful candidate will work closely with senior members in the team and members of the wider multi-disciplinary team.
