Main duties of the job
This new and unique fellowship post is designed to support a junior medical trainee who wishes to commit to supporting cardiology medical education through hi-fidelity practical simulation alongside clinical training in cardiology.
This is a 6-12 month 'out of programme' part-time post aimed at those who wish to develop their clinical training in cardiology alongside development of their personal teaching experience. The post holder will help to co-design and deliver cardiology education courses designed to support cardiology trainees.
This will initially focus on the setup and delivery of simulation courses for junior cardiology trainees in order for them to become familiar with and learn the core practical skills required in cardiology, matched to the curriculum in the JRCPTB. Examples include cardiac catheterisation, temporary and permanent cardiac pacing and pericardiocentesis.
Further development will include the design and development of an advanced cardiology practical simulation programme, to facilitate and augment clinical practice. This will include training in complex coronary intervention, cardiac device implantation and cardiac electrophysiology and cardiac ablation. The junior fellow will assist in the delivery of this programme as part of the simulation team. They will help design and deliverboth the clinical and non clinical (human factors) teaching as part of this simulation programme.
