GUY'S & ST THOMAS' HOSPITAL NHS FOUNDATION TRUST
SENIOR CLINICAL FELLOW IN MEDICAL ONCOLOGY & PHASE 1 TRIALS - Full Time - Nodal Point 5
Applications are invited for a post in the Cancer Early Phase Trials Unit (CEPTU) within the Cancer Centre at Guy's & St Thomas' Hospitals. This post is available from June 2024 onward for a period of twelve months in the first instance, but for the right candidate who succeeds in the role the expectation would be for a longer period in post given the complexity of the work delivered.
This post is an ideal opportunity for an experienced oncologist interested in extending their knowledge and experience of Phase 1 trials. It also serves to extend general oncology experience, since our Phase 1 Unit attracts patients with a diverse range of tumours and clinical problems. The working week will include participation in medical oncology clinics in the Cancer Centre, according to the interests and needs of the successful candidate, and opportunities to engage in translational research in collaboration with KHP laboratories.
To be considered for this role, MRCP or equivalent is essential, and for overseas applicants a GMC-recognised English language qualification is required. We look forward to helping support your oncology career in a world-renowned and forward-thinking environment.
Main duties of the job
Successful applicants will primarily be based in the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Clinical Research Facility at Guy's, a state of the art space for the conduct of experimental medicine, which includes a GMP Cell Therapy suite. Our department is well-recognized for its provision of specialist medical oncology education, although successful candidates are likely to be at or near completion of their specialist training. This post does not attract a formal UK national training number, but there are extensive educational opportunities. These include working to deliver clinical trial and translational research, but also potential for involvement in publications, audit, appraisal and conference attendance. We also have an active teaching programme including grand rounds and weekly journal club meetings.
The successful applicant will have extensive prior experience in solid tumour oncology including recruitment to trials, and but previous specific exposure to Phase 1 trials is not required. The role would be particularly suitable for a trainee completing their oncology training, and would provide valuable preparation for a consultant-level post in oncology with a special interest in translational research and early phase trials.
