Job summary
We are looking to recruit an experienced Registered Nurse to join the ever growing and dynamic team supporting patients and their families in the care and treatment of interstitial lung disease at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust (GSTT). Based across Guys and St Thomas' hospitals, the team treats and supports patients with various interstitial lung disease diagnosis' and the complex management of the disease. As a tertiary referral Centre, patients may be referred from GSTT or from hospitals across South East England. We are looking to recruit a B6 nurse to join our B7 CNS Team. You will need to have proven experience in the respiratory field with a particular interest inInterstitial lung disease, be a good team player with excellent communication and time management skills and have resilience to work in this speciality.
Main duties of the job
- Manage the ILD patient helpline, triaging and responding to patients and their relatives in a timely manner- Escalating to members of the MDT if required.
- Work closely with the Pathway coordinators to ensure clinics are managed efficiently and referrals processed.
- Co-ordinating patient pathways to ensure seamless care for patients requiring ILDinfusion medication.
- Take responsibility for training the wider nursing team on Cytotoxic medications, Once Competency has been completed.
- Support the chest clinic nurse in administer infusions as a day case or as inpatient when required.
- Conducting face to face, telephone and video appointments with ILD Patients across both sites.
- Performing 6-minute walk tests for oxygen assessments and ensure appropriate referrals to ongoing service support within the wider community.
- Attend and contribute to Multi-disciplinary team meetings, co-ordinating attendance and ensuring Referrals are Triaged appropriately.
- Participate in patient ward rounds within the hospital setting.
- Attending Complex Serious Respiratory Failure (SRF) meetings.
- Participate in ILD Research Projects, Audits and Data collection.
- Coordinate patient support groups and gain experience to be able to lead the sessions.
- Attend Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis (APF) meetings representing GSTT

A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced nurse to join our established Interstitial Lung Disease Team and work across the sites of Guys and St Thomas's Hospital. As a Deputy Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will work closely with the Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist team and wider MDT consisting of Consultants andPharmacists to review patients within both in-patient and ambulatory settings. The successful candidate will attend and contribute to MDT clinics and build links with both internal and external agencies to ensure high standard evidence based care for our patient group. You will be working alongside the MDT to complete a holistic assessment of our patients as they learn to live with a new diagnosis or optimise their quality of life whilst living with a long-term condition. The role will also require you to support patients with palliative needs, providing adviceto patients and their families liaising closely with community services to ensure continuity of care. There is a high element of clinic work in face to face consultations, in-patient ward rounds, administration of specialist cytotoxic medicines in the infusion suite, drug monitoring, as well as the opportunity to lead a patient support group. The successful post holder willplay a key role in collecting the expected data for NHS England and support the service registry standards set out by the British Thoracic Society. You will work closely with the band 7 nurses to further your own skills and knowledge and be a consistent point of contact for patients via the service helpline. Experience of clinical assessment, a willingness to learn and good interpersonal skills are required to communicate effectively and sensitively whilst responding to the patients' needs.
