Job summary

The Corporate Nursing team, under the leadership of the Chief Nurse is responsible for the delivery and administration of the statutory and professional portfolio of the Chief Nurse. The collective portfolio includes leadership of the Nursing and Midwifery profession, with a focus on being visible and clinically credible. In December 2022, the Trust launched 'A Centre of Research for Nurses and Midwives' (ACORN). ACORN provides a single point of contact for research advice and support for all Nursing and Midwifery staff across all stages of the profession to facilitate their engagement in research. The vision is to ensure that the nursing and midwifery workforce contribute to and lead in the provision of outstanding, evidence based patient care and to ensure that nurse and midwife led research is embedded within the nursing and midwifery culture of the Trust, at both team and individual level.The Chief Nurses Office is also responsible for patient experience, Safeguarding and Infection, Prevention and Control and for the development of the Nursing and Midwifery professional agenda, providing leadership to circa 9000 Nurses and Midwives. The office supports theoperational and strategic delivery and achievement of organisational goals and reports to the Trust Board on a range of Nursing and Midwifery metrics which include quality, safety, research, safe staffing, Infection, Prevention and Control, patient experience and vulnerable people.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be responsible for the operational leadership and management of ACORN, our centre of research for nurses and midwives. This role is key to the implementation and delivery of the Trust's strategic nursing and midwifery research vision, which is to ensure nurse and midwife led research is embedded within the culture of the Trust, to improve patient care and the professional standing of nurses and midwives who deliver and lead provision of clinical care.

You will support the Director of Nursing: Nurse and Midwife Led Research and Academic Leadership to increase capacity and capability to deliver nurse and midwife led research throughout the organisation.

This post includes a 0.2 WTE three-year fixed term secondment to London South Bank University as an Associate Professor in the School of Nursing & Midwifery. In this role, you will be expected to undertake Masters/PhD supervision and to support research capacity and capability building within the School.
