Job summary
Applications are for Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist in the Department of Congenital Heart Disease based at the Evelina London Children's Hospital. This is a substantive full time post (10 programmed activities). Although based at Evelina London there is an expectation of cross site working supporting colleagues at the Royal Brompton Hospital and across the extent of the Lifelong CHD network.
This post has previously been a locum post and is now to become permanent. The successful applicant will be a call part of the paediatric cardiology team participating in acute inpatient management, provision of paediatric outpatient services and contributing to care within the wider congenital heart disease network. Inpatient work includes working as a consultant of the week looking after children across the neonatal unit, paediatric intensive care unit and cardiology ward. This includes provision of after hours on-call for general paediatric cardiology. The successful applicant will not be required to participate in intervention on calls.Outpatient activity includes paediatric cardiology outpatients for follow-up and new referrals. The successful candidate would also be expected to contribute to the multidisciplinary Kawasaki disease clinic.
The post also includes provision of general paediatric cardiac clinics in the network and close liaison with the general paediatric team at those sites.
Main duties of the job
This substantive full-time consultant appointment in paediatric cardiology.
The post-holder will be part of the core paediatric cardiology team providing acute care to children with cardiac disease across the inpatient areas at Evelina London Children's Hospital. This includes provision of consultant of the week and after-hours on-call. The the post older would be expected to cover 5 service weeks and weekends per year. Additionally, the post holder will provide a weekly outpatient clinic based at Evelina London comprising a combination of new and follow-up patients. The post holder will also work with colleagues in paediatric cardiology and paediatric immunology and infectious diseases to support the Kawasaki clinic and provide acute inpatient advice for new Kawasaki presentations, as well as contributing to the support of the Rapid Access Service.
The post-holder will also support clinics within the wider Lifelong congenital heart disease network. In doing so they will be working with paediatric cardiac colleagues across both the Evelina London and Royal Brompton sites as well as other members of the multidisciplinary team. It is expected that the post older will provide up two network clinics per month.
Whilst this is a general paediatric cardiology post, additional skills that can be brought to enhance the overall cardiac service would be welcome. For example, expertise in cardiopulmonary exercise testing.

Paediatric Cardiology Services sit within the Children's Cardio-Respiratory and Intensive Care (CRIC) directorate and are a joint service across Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals and Evelina London Children's Hospital. As such it is a requirement of your employment that the post-holder is prepared to work at any additional or different location owned or served by the Trust, either on an on-going or temporary basis according to the demands of the service.

General paediatric cardiology service cover 1.5 PA
You will join the paediatric cardiology on service rota undertaking 5 service weeks per year. Your routine activity is not scheduled for this week. During the service week you will provide consultant responsibility for the management of all inpatients under the care of the paediatric cardiac service including daily ward rounds of the cardiology ward, PICU and NICU. Weekend cover is included within the on call PA allocation.
Congenital cardiology outpatient clinic 3.0 PA (including associated admin)
Weekly congenital cardiac clinic seeing a mixture of new referrals and follow ups, either from the ward or the paediatric cardiology follow up waiting list. This also includes support of the Kawasaki clinic on a once per month basis and where required consultant support of the Rapid Access service.
Paediatric cardiology network support - 2.5 PA (including associated admin)
This will cover two monthly all day clinics within the Lifelong Congenital Heart Network and provision of support to Kings College Hospital PICU and NNU two mornings per month
Multidisciplinary meetings 1.0PA
This will include attendance at the weekly paediatric cardiac MDM and other subspecialty MDMs as required
General Paediatric cardiology on call 1.0 PA
This includes general paediatric cardiology on call cover during weeknights and at the weekend. At the weekend this includes a daily consultant lead ward round.
Revalidation, job planning and appraisal 1.0 PA
Activities that support GMC requirements for revalidation including continuing professional development, mandatory training and clinical governance activities
