Main duties of the job
The role is divided into Chief SpR responsibilities (40%) and clinical commitments (60%).
This is a leadership and management role designed for senior specialty trainees to gain experience in leadership, management and quality improvement. The role provides 40% protected time for leadership and management activities. These might include developing and implementing local initiatives focusing on, for example, service improvement, engagement and morale, education and training, workforce and sustainability. Projects are flexible, enabling you to explore personal/ professional interests and are for negotiation between applicants and the department upon successful appointment. You must be an Oncology Registrar with an existing UK national training number to apply, and full GMC registration.
This is a fixed-term role for minimum of 12 months.
The role can be undertaken OOP or in programme (LTFT). Applications must be discussed with your educational supervisor and training programme director (TPD) or Head of School, and permission to apply must be granted.
Participation in the oncology oncall rota is optional, on a full time or less than full time basis, to be discussed with the department during the recruitment process.

The post holder will be mentored by a senior clinical leader within the organisation and gain a unique insight into NHS leadership and management processes, as well as deeper knowledge of NHS structures and stakeholders.
They will be encouraged to discuss their learning needs with their line manager and financial support may be available for leadership and management training e.g. change management, team culture and development, quality improvement, leadership, influencing and personal resilience
Clinical or Educational Role/ Responsibilities
The remainder of the role (60%) will be filled through:
- Clinical commitments on a GMC-approved programme in oncology (outpatients, radiotherapy planning and audit, chemotherapy experience, inpatients)
Contract/ Training/ Oncalls
