Job summary
The Pleural disease service at Guys and St. Thomas now seeks to appoint into an exciting Pleural Disease Fellowship opportunity. The post will integrate clinical, research and service development elements. This will be to assist with currently running clinical trials as well as develop new projects. The Pleural Service works closely with multiple specialties including oncology and thoracic surgery. The pleural consultant and thoracic surgery consultant jointly run clinics, with weekly MDT's.
The clinical service is complemented by a number of concurrent research projects covering a spectrum of clinical and basic science and we have strong links to academic Respiratory research groups within King's College London. The Fellow will therefore be well-mentored in the identification and pursuit of research interests within their time in post.
Moreover, the post provides valuable opportunities for hands-on involvement service development, including the development of tertiary-secondary care partnerships, with appropriate support. It will therefore suit SpRs with a dedicated interest in pleural disease training and planned sub-specialisation at Consultant level.
Main duties of the job
This is a comprehensive tertiary pleural service with facilities for image guided procedures and thoracoscopy, and accepts referrals from other trusts in the region.
The Fellow will therefore gain excellent experience in clinical, managerial and governance issues in the context of pleural disease. This is a great opportunity to work within a teaching hospital environment, in addition to delivering clinical service. Full training in all aspects of the diagnosis and management of pleural disease, including development of the research programme.
Clinical duties will include, but is not limited to (see timetable below):
-
- Participating in the clinical management of patients with infectious, malignant and benign pleural disease. Pleural interventions.
- Implementation and refining of ambulatory care pathways.
- Assist in reach for inpatients providing specialist input.
- Making early discharge plans for patients with pleural disease.
This appointment will run from April 2024 for up to 6 - 12 months (as per the successful applicant) . For additional information please contact Dr. Owais Kadwani on or Owais.kadwani@gstt.nhs.uk
