Are you a motivated, enthusiastic nurse with extensive post-registration experience in patient care and the emergency pathway? If so we would like you to join our team. Mark Ward is an acute stroke and neuro -rehabilitation unit at GSTT. We have strong team work and an active development and support culture.

An essential part of the role you will be able to provide strong clinical leadership and assist the ward manager and deputies in leading the team, ensuring a high standard of care is delivered to patients and their families.

Mark Ward has a committed multidisciplinary team who take an active role in the development of their staff and the service.

Main duties of the job

The Deputy Ward Manager role on Mark Ward is integral in providing and contributing to stable and safe leadership within Stroke and Neurorehabilitation discipline at GSTT.

The duties and responsibilities of the post holder include Clinical and Managerial Leadership, Clinical expertise with commitment to excellent standards of patient care, People Management , Training and Education, supporting and leading the team in all areas of compliance and governance whilst utilising proficient communication skills to support our patients and staff.

  • Provide strong clinical leadership skills, supporting, energising, inspiringand empowering others in pursuit of a shared vision to ensure the effectivemanagement of the ward/department.
  • To assist and support the Sister/Charge Nurse in the establishment of anefficient working environment, making the most effective and efficient use of staff, supplies and services.
  • In co-ordinating the day-to-day management of the clinical area, delegates duties and care appropriately, whilst maintaining overall responsibility. Ensures that staffing and skill mix is maintained, at all times, to a level that does not compromise patient safety.
  • Responsible for the assessment and subsequent ordering of bank andagency staff within the clinical area including being an authorised signatory for temporary staff
  • To be involved in the development, assessment and implementation ofguidelines, protocols and pathways.
  • To deputise for the Sister/Charge Nurse in their absence.
  • To attend and participate in monthly departmental meetings and ward rounds in the absence of the Sister/Charge Nurse. To help to promote new ideas and methods for the delivery of care and assist in their implementation through liaison and co-operation with the multidisciplinary team.
