Harefield Critical Care Nurse Open Day February 14th

9am - 3.30pm

Band 5 and Band 6 Nurses

We invite all those interested in band 5 and band 6 posts to join us on our open day!

The day will consist of educational sessions detailing the pathways of band 5 and 6 nurses in Critical Care, we will have some of our team talk through their own career pathways and opportunities they have had. The Practice education team and Lead Nurse for ECLS will facilitate a simulation exhibition, showcasing our specialities and the potential learning opportunities for those joining our team.

We will be offering interview slots all day for those who meet the appropriate criteria.

Main duties of the job

We welcome all those seeking band 5 and band 6 opportunities in Critical Care. We also encourage applications from new graduates. The critical care department has a fantastic team of practice educators who are here to support you on your journey. We have two different pathways to support both band 5 and 6 nurses. This includes our in-house academic programme, university based Intensive Care Course. Those who work on HDU can also attend the university-based Introduction to Critical Care Course. After or in house critical care training, there is a host of educational opportunities such as ECMO, Mechanical Life Support, leadership training and secondment opportunities within specialist teams.

Successful applicants will be fully supported whilst gaining a breadth of experience in the care of critically ill patients undergoing a variety of critical care interventions. Our education programme supported by our practice education team aims to provide staff of all grades with the essential knowledge and skills required in our busy, friendly department.

About us

Harefield Hospital's Critical Care Unit

The unit is world famous and specialises in caring for some of the sickest patients in the UK. We care for a range of cardio-thoracic patients which include; patients pre and post heart and/or lung transplant, pre and post cardiac/thoracic surgery, post Percutaneous Coronary Intervention and those suffering acute cardiogenic shock requiring mechanical life support such as Extra Corporeal membrane Oxygenation (ECMO)/Impella/Left Ventricular Assist device (LVAD). Our nurses are also skilled in other areas of critical care such as ventilation, hemofiltration, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP) and pacing. We will be launching our new dialysis service in 2024, which will offer more opportunity and development to our nursing team.

Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals joined Guy's and St Thomas' in February 2021 and is the largest specialist heart and lung centre in the UK and among the largest in Europe. We provide treatment for people with heart and lung disease, including rare and complex conditions, offering some of the most sophisticated treatment that is available anywhere in the world.
