Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced nurse to take up the position ofan Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) within our Head and Neck surgical oncology team at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust.

Our Head and Neck Surgical team is seeking to recruit a Band 8a Advanced Nurse Practitioner to join the team for a 9-months fixed contract or secondment. The successful candidate will work alongside our Head and Neck surgical consultants and the Head and Neck oncology consultants.

The successful candidate will lead on:

  • pre-treatment clinic for both oncology and surgical treatments
  • support patient with the new diagnosis clinics.
  • nurse led clinics to supervise patients during treatment with (chemo)radiation
  • MDT follow up clinics in CHAN

The successful candidate will be working at, or towards a Masters level qualification, have extensive post-registration Head and Neck experience, and have an Advanced physical assessment and Nurse Prescribing Qualification or be working towards this.

Main duties of the job

The Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) is an experienced registered nurse with specialist skills to assess and treat patients and manage the clinical environment, in liaison with the management and consultant teams.

The successful candidate's main duties are:

  • To work at a high level of advanced practice, providing clinical expertise
  • To provide professional leadership and support within a multi-professional team
  • To act as an autonomous practitioner in forming clinical decisions and complex management plans in the assessment and diagnosis of patients referred using the 2ww head and neck cancer pathway.
  • To contribute to the development of the Head and Neck 2-week wait ANP role.
  • To monitor the effectiveness of the role with prospective audit and to present its results internally and externally.
  • To support and mentor future nurses who have an interest in the ANP role.
  • To understand the professional accountability and legal frameworks for advanced practice.
  • To enhance continuity of patient care.

The post holder will develop new areas of practice, with nursing and consultant staff working closely with the interdisciplinary team ensuring quality standards are met.
