Job description
Job responsibilities
The role:
This post is an ideal opportunity for a physician interested in oncology and clinical trials to extend their knowledge and experience. In addition to providing participation in and practical knowledge of Phase 1 trials it also serves to extend general oncology experience, since our Unit attracts patients with a diverse range of tumours and clinical problems. The working week will include the opportunity to engage in translational research in collaboration with KHP laboratories.
Successful applicants will primarily be based in the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Clinical Research Facility at Guys, a state of the art space for the conduct of experimental medicine, accredited as a Phase 1 Unit by MHRA. This post does not attract a formal UK national training number, but there are extensive educational opportunities. Our department is well-recognized for its provision of specialist medical oncology education, and the postholder will be expected to take part in weekly journal club and consultant-led specialist training sessions. There will be potential for involvement in publications, audit, appraisal and conference attendance.
The successful applicant will have completed general medical training, but extensive prior experience in solid tumour oncology or of Phase 1 trials is not required. The role would be particularly suitable for a trainee considering embarking on specialist oncology training, and would provide valuable preparation for a numbered training post in oncology.
To be considered for this role, MRCP or equivalent is essential, and for overseas applicants a GMC-recognised English language qualification is required. We look forward to helping support your oncology career in a world-renowned and forward-thinking environment.
Informal enquiries should be addressed to Prof. James Spicer, Consultant Medical Oncologist, via email at james.spicer@kcl.ac.uk.
