Job summary

The Lung and Heart day unit is a developing service offering cardiac and respiratory patients' diagnosis, treatment and management of chronic medical condition in a day case setting. Patients come to the unit for procedures such as chest drain management, biologic treatment, immunoglobulin treatment administered intravenously or subcutaneously and cytotoxic therapy.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work alongside a dynamic team who are experts in their specialism. This includes a diverse multi-disciplinary team including, Matron, Ward Sister, Staff Nurses' Band 5 and 6, HCA, Practice Educator, specialist CNS in their field, chest physiotherapists, OT, speech and language therapist, dieticians, palliative care, research nurses, psychologists and renowned consultants in their field.

Main duties of the job

A vacancy has arisen, for an enthusiastic, hard-working and highly motivated Health Care Assistant to join our team in Day Unit .

We are open Monday to Friday 0800hrs- 2000hrs and manage a wide variety of specialist services within cardiac and respiratory nursing field. These include PH, ACHD both adult and transitional, post thoracic and cardiac surgery patients, Interstitial Lung Disease, Host Defence patients, Cystic fibrosis, Asthma and allergy, Lung failure including sleep and ventilation. We aim to create a relaxed, friendly and home like atmosphere as much as possible whilst ensuring professionalism and maintaining patient safety. We are medium risk area and have specific clinical pathways certainly after the pandemic. We adhere to strict health protocols like social distancing, good hand hygiene and appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment ( PPE). We follow the correct up to date guidelines on infection control in relation to Covid 19. We have designated break rooms for staff, and changing rooms equipped with lockers for staff members.

To provide administrative clerical and clinical support to the consultant and their team in clinic.To perform spirometry when indicated in accordance with the protocol and Trust policy.To perform skin prick testing when indicated in accordance with the protocol and Trust policy.To perform urinalysis when indicated in accordance with the protocol and Trust policy.To perform Phlebotomy procedures in accordance with the protocol and Trust policy.To perform blood pressure monitoring in accordance with the protocol and Trust policy.To perform saturation monitoring when indicated in accordance with the protocol and Trust policy.To perform Electrocardiogram (ECG) in accordance with standard protocols.To perform basic observations (height & weight) when indicated in accordance with the protocol and Trust policy.To perform decontamination of endoscopes rigid and flexi in accordance with the protocol and Trust Infection control policy.
