Guy's Cancer is one of the UK'S largest comprehensive Cancer Centres, delivered in a Cancer centre housing ambulatory cancer services which opened in 2016 and a new cancer treatment centre at Queen Mary's Hospital Sidcup (QMS) which opened in 2017. Guy's Cancer comprises a complete multi-disciplinary team of professionals including Clinical Oncologists and Medical Oncologists. Oncology is one of the key services within the Cancer and Surgery Clinical Group at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust (GSTT). Guy's hosts a well-developed clinical trials unit and the team makes significant contributions to trial recruitment, including close interaction with the Phase 1 trials activity based in the Clinical Research Facility at GSTT.
This post comprises 8.64 Pas to support the Gynae Oncology Services at GSTT.
We are looking for a motivated clinician with an interest in Gynaecological cancers. The clinical part of the post will be working closely with Drs Anna Winship, Benjamin Taylor and Ingrid White. The Clinical Director for Oncology is Dr Hartmut Kristeleit (Hartmut.kristeleit@gstt.nhs.uk) and the Deputy Clinical Director for Clinical Oncology is Dr Mary Lei (Mary.Lei@gstt.nhs.uk).
Main duties of the job
Successful applicants must have FRCR or equivalent and a wide experience in Clinical Oncology (both chemotherapy & radiotherapy, including SBRT). You must be fully registered with the GMC/GDC, hold Licence to Practice and be on the Specialist Register, with CCT.
A Research Degree is highly desirable. The applicant will be working with a team of consultants in a joint-clinic/MDT setting. The post includes clinics at GSTT with access to a well-developed clinical trial unit.

The Clinical Oncology Department at Guy's and St Thomas' offers a wide range of specialized radiotherapy techniques including IMRT, IGRT, VMAT, 4D-RT, SABR, HDR brachytherapy, LDR seed brachytherapy, TSEBT, TBI and SRS.

- To participate in clinical and other service activities with the object of ensuring a high standard of patient care.
- To take an active part in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training.
- To contribute to the management of the clinical service and service development.
Duties and responsibilities:
Clinical:
The post holder will, together with consultant colleagues, be responsible for the provision of Clinical Oncology services to the Guys & St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust to include:
- Diagnosis and treatment of patients of the Guys and St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust in such hospitals, health centres or clinics or other premises as required.
- Continuing clinical responsibility for the patients in your charge, allowing for all proper delegation to, and training of, your staff.
- Domiciliary consultations as required from time to time.
- The diagnosis and treatment of patients occupying accommodation made available under Sections 58, 65 and 66 of the National Health Service Act 1977, in so far as such patients have not made private arrangements for such treatment under Section 65(2) of the Act.
The post holder will be working in joint-clinic settings and will be supported by other oncologists in the MDT.
Teaching:
All consultants are expected to take part in undergraduate teaching during their normal clinical work. Consultants taking on additional teaching responsibilities will have time allocated for these in their job plan.
Training:
All consultants will be expected to contribute to the training and support of doctors in training, including the role of Educational Supervisor in the educational contracts for junior staff in the specialty. 9
Research:
Clinical trial activity and Clinical Research is a key element of the work of a clinical oncology consultant and consultants will be expected to undertake in this activity as agreed with their clinical director.
Clinical Governance:
All consultants are expected to take part in clinical governance activity, including clinical audit, clinical guideline and protocol development and clinical risk management.
Clinical Management:
All consultants are expected to contribute to the management and development of their clinical service.
