Job summary

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the department, supporting other physiologists through line-managing and training, providing expert advice on technology, scoring complex sleep studies, supporting current research projects. The successful candidate will have extensive experience of polysomnography and multiple sleep latency testing, preferably in paediatrics. Evidence of previous line-management and service improvement is also important. We are very proud of the excellent experience we're able to provide families both in our comprehensive and dedicated in-patient facilities and in their homes. This post is currently funded 0.85WTE/31.87hrs per week however we hope extra funding can be found to offer 1.0WTE/37.5hrs per week.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an enthusiastic B7 physiologist to join our sleep diagnostic service for 12 months. Our team provides a comprehensive range of diagnostics ranging from home oximetry to attended polysomnography and multiple sleep latency testing for patients of Evelina London Children's Hospital, its wide network and the UK, we have 5 dedicated bedrooms. In addition to our pure sleep capacity we work very closely with other specialisms. We perform expert diagnostics for long-term ventilated patients . Collaboration with Neurophysiology enables us to perform concurrent 10:20 and NPSG testing to help management of very complex cases. Our patients transition to the Adult Sleep Disorders Centre, together we are the GSTT Lifespan Sleep Service and collaborate for service development, research etc.

The successful candidate will work alongside our existing Sleep B7 to help us optimise our amazing workforce, equipment and processes. Daily tasks will include performing advanced sleep analysis, assessing/supervising other physiologists work, technical support, line-management, ensuring the smooth day to day running of the department and MDT work with our Psychologists, Sleep Consultants, Nurses, Admin team and Service managers. Excellent experience of polysomnography and holding the RPSGT credential (or equivalence) is essential, as will be a good track record of project work. There will be opportunity for research and innovation and a strong emphasis on personal development.

This role is one of 2 Sleep B7's within our large and diverse team of Physiologists at the Children's Sleep and Respiratory Centre at Evelina London Children's Hospital who perform high quality diagnostics for sleep and respiratory disorders in children. All of our sleep studies are manually reviewed, scored and reported by trained physiologists to maintain excellent standards and optimise patient outcomes. The Chief Clinical Physiologist will score/report highly specialised studies including PSG, MSLT and combined sleep/telemetry studies. They will provide highly specialist knowledge and expert advice to sleep physiologists scoring sleep studies and producing physiologist reports. The post holder will provide expert knowledge and support for procurement of new equipment, maintenance of existing sleep analysis equipment and the repair or replacement of all medical equipment within the department. They will support the drive of research and development. Providing line-management, training and the supervision of departmental trainers are important tasks in this role. When required the post-holder will be expected to take part in the departmental shift rotation.

Qualifications/ Education

Essential

  • Degree in clinical physiology or equivalent.
  • MSc in clinical physiology or eligible to apply for STP equivalence
