Substantive Consultant in General Paediatrics

The Evelina London Children's Hospital (ELCH) is seeking a less than full time (6 PA) consultant in General Paediatrics. This exciting development aims to ensure that ELCH is both compliant with all RCPCH and NHS London paediatric acute care standards whilst facilitating innovative models of care for our local children.
General paediatrics at St Thomas' moved into the newly built Evelina London Children's Hospital along with children's tertiary specialities from Guy's Hospital in 2005. Over the past 18 years expansion of the general paediatric team has been achieved by employing paediatricians with a variety of specialist interests which has allowed the gathering of other specialty expertise required by the children's hospital. The exceptional General Paediatrician that ELCH is now seeking to appoint will be integral to the further development and running of our progressive general paediatric service.
Main duties of the job
This post will be expected to provide:
- Consultant general paediatric care for secondary care admissions to ELCH via our paediatric emergency department, including acute assessment and management of medical high dependency patients. This will entail acute consultant of the week duties as well as participating in an out of hours on call rota.
- General Paediatric outpatient provision for GP referrals for general paediatrics
- General Paediatric care for children with complex medical needs in ELCH as part of the General Paediatric COMPASS (COMplex PAaediatricS Service) team
The appointed candidate would also be expected to also contribute to other areas such as:
- Liaison and discharge for complex tertiary paediatrics
- Intra hospital / community pathways
- High dependency care and patient safety
- Education and training
- Research
- Service transformation
- Other sub-specialty interests

Every year, Evelina London cares for more than 95,000 children and young people in hospital and in the community. Evelina London carries out more than 107,000 outpatient appointments each year. On average, we see more than 400 children and young people every day for an outpatient appointment at the hospital. More than 25,000 children are treated in our dedicated children's Emergency department. We see an average of 80 children every day for a planned investigation, treatment or operation.
