You will be responsible for care provided in the Hospital Birth Centre (labour ward), Maternity Theatres and Maternity High Dependency Unit, and will be closely supported by the Lead Midwife and the Deputy Chief Midwife.

Our maternity service was recently rated 'Good' by the CQC following our inspection in September 2022 and acknowledged the service is well-led and engages well with women to plan and manage services.

Both the CQC and recent regional Ockenden assurance visit identified a positive working culture with staff reporting high levels of civility and kindness with a clear commitment to the importance of psychological safety. Staff at all levels report confidence in their ability to escalate concerns or seek advice.

Closing Date: 30th November 2023 at Midnight

Interview: 8th December 2023

Main duties of the job

We care for a range of women and babies with complex maternal medicine needs, such as sickle cell disease and cardiac conditions. We also provide care for women with pregnancies complicated by risk of extreme preterm birth, or known complex fetal anomalies, therefore coordinated multidisciplinary care is essential.

Your role will be key in ensuring delivery of high quality, safe care and positive experiences for our women and families, and also for our staff. You will also provide clinical care and support directly to the women and families using our services.

As an experienced midwife you will have good knowledge of both midwife-led and complex maternity care pathways. Focussing on working with your teams to enable a culture of kindness and compassion, and developing systems and processes that deliver efficient and effective care will be essential. You will also be supported to ensure we achieve key staffing requirements HR processes, rotas and recruitment.

About us

Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust comprises five of the UK's best known hospitals - Guy's, St Thomas', Evelina London Children's Hospital, Royal Brompton and Harefield - as well as community services in Lambeth and Southwark.

This exciting post offers the successful candidate the opportunity to help us achieve national objectives related to safe care and quality performance, complex maternal medicine pathways, and tertiary level neonatal care. You will work closely with our staff, and the women and families that use our service; responding to service needs as they arise, facilitating the implementation of quality improvements projects and staff development. You will be a highly visible clinicalleader, working closely alongside the medical teams, guiding and supporting to ensure women's choices are respected, and that their outcomes are to the highest possible standard.

We would welcome any interested candidates to come and speak about the opportunity with the Lead Midwife.
