Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a psychologist with an interest and experience in neurodevelopment to further develop their skills in a tertiary multidisciplinary team.

The Newcomen Neurodevelopmental Service is a well-established, welcoming and supportive team based at St Thomas's Hospital. We provide specialist assessments, consultation and intervention for children from the South East regions and beyond. The service also provides a clinic for children with complex feeding difficulties including those with a diagnosis of ARFID.

We see children and young people with a range of suspected developmental needs which are often multiple in nature (including autism, epilepsy, ADHD, learning, behaviour that challenges and other complex medical health presentations).

The ideal post holders would be experienced in working with children and young people with neurodevelopmental differences such as autism. Sessions are available in the complex feeding clinic as well as neurodevelopmental assessment clinic.

We have 1.5 FTE available and are keen to hear from applicants interested in full and part time positions (minimum 2.5 days). We are open to flexible working arrangements.

Established job share partners need to make separate applications and both need to be shortlisted and interviewed separately.

Suitably qualified candidates who are interviewed but unsuccessful on this occasion may be added to our talent pool.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide highly specialist psychological assessments based on appropriate use of a range methods (including cognitive assessment, validated tests (e.g. ADOS-2), self-report measures, rating scales, observations and clinical interviews with children, families and other agencies)
  • To work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to provide high quality integrated care, contributing to diagnosis and formulation of young people's neurodevelopmental and mental health needs.
  • To provide recommendations for support based on psychological formulation and evidence base.
  • Offer psychological assessments and intervention of children and young people presenting with feeding and associated difficulties as part of a multidisciplinary team (dependant on sessions offered)
  • Supervision of assistant, trainee and undergraduate psychology students
