Job summary

We are looking to appoint a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Developmental Paediatrics to join Evelina London Community Children's Services to work with the integrated Community Paediatrics services in Lambeth and Southwark.

The post holder will be based at the Mary Sheridan Centre in Lambeth and Sunshine House, Southwark. The post holder will deliver services across both Mary Sheridan Centre, Lambeth and Sunshine House, Southwark.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a first class team in an active and progressive central London teaching hospital environment at a time when new ways of working to improve outcomes for children are being explored through multiple initiatives.

Southwark specialist community child health services are based at the purpose built integrated centre for children and young people, Sunshine House, which houses the community paediatricians, specialist nurses, paediatric therapists and the CAMHS' neurodevelopmental services.

Lambeth specialist community child health services are based at the Mary Sheridan Centre for Child Health in Kennington. This is a purpose built child development centre with community paediatricians, specialist nurses, paediatric therapists, CAMHS and administrative staff.

Main duties of the job

  • Participation in child protection medicals where there are concerns about abuse (including sexual abuse) - completion of lifestyle, emotional and mental wellbeing screening of child as part of joint appointment for CP medical; including being present for physical examinations as required; and to contribute to the written report resulting from the medical.
  • Nurse-led clinic: neurodevelopmental follow-up of children identified at CP medical requiring a community paeds assessment including home/school visits as needed. To produce a written report of the assessment to be shared with parents, other professionals including school and Children's Social Care (CSC) as appropriate.
  • CP duty rota : initial point of response to referrals from CSC (as part of rota) & attendance at strategy meetings allocated to the community paediatrics service i.e. via the existing pathway
  • To recognise developmental concerns and discuss with supervising medical team/ Consultant on call
  • Access Consultant on-call for Child protection each week for clinical discussion and supervision
