Job summary

As Head of Sourcing for Software, join one of the most advanced Digital Commercial teams in the NHS. The team has been instrumental in supporting the single, largest implementation of an Electronic Healthcare Record (EHR) ecosystem in NHS history, covering circa 50,000 staff across Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust (now incorporating Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals) and King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The Digital Commercial team in the Data, Technology and Information Directorate (DT&i) of Guy's and St Thomas' has an enviable track record in delivering multi-millions in efficiency savings and value from key supply markets on behalf of its customers.

This strategic role has been established to ensure that DT&i has the softwaresourcing skills and capacity to manage the procurement and commercial relationships that are instrumental in helping DT&i to deliver its objectives.

Whilst this post is located at GSTT , working relationships across both GSTT and KCH and the Integrated Care System (ICS) will be essential, and there is an expectation that the role will encompass work across all hospital sites, as agreed with the Chief Digital Information Officer.

Main duties of the job

The Head of Sourcing, Software, reports into the Director of Sourcing, DT&I Commercial. The team is an agile group of sourcing and contract management specialists who are leading in the field of Digital Health and related clinical and non-clinicaltechnologies. Over the last four years, the team has delivered state-of-the-art technologies and innovations to some of the largest and most complex NHS hospital groups in the UK (GSTT/RBH and KCH among them).

The role is to be the senior, software sourcing and commercial specialist within the team who will operate as the enabler between the Trusts and supply market capabilities, ensuring the Trusts obtain best value from the supply chain. The role will deliver extensive expert-led, through-life, sourcing and supplier management activities.

The role is instrumental in deliveringeffective clinical and non-clinical software and systems to the hospital groups and requires an experienced individual who can operate confidently across Director-level stakeholders.

Initially, there will be no staff responsibilities, however, management experience is desirable.

  • The key responsibility of this post is to develop strategic software sourcing plans across the Directorate that deliver year-on-year benefits and savings/cost efficiencies to agreed targets, as well as delivering key innovation, efficiency and improvements from the supply chain.
  • The role is responsible for the day-to-day delivery and management of softwareprocurements, integrating key internal stakeholders and suppliers to deliver value within a compliant framework.
  • It is responsible for the provision of commercial / strategic procurement advice and be the professional procurement lead for the Directorate on specific, high profile, high risk procurements.
  • To drive the development, management and delivery of specific procurement cost improvement programmes, aligned to operational metrics.
  • To ensure that the Directorate is compliant with all statutory and local policies/standards and procedures throughout the procurement process, and to update policies to reflect best practice and change in external legislation and internal governance
  • To maximise commercial leverage and develop commercial opportunities, to lead and develop strategies on new initiatives with emphasis on efficiency opportunities.
  • To develop 3-5yr category sourcing strategies across the specific ICT software spend categories and lead on key procurement activities in the Directorate, extending the procurement footprint across all areas of the group Trusts to maximise value from the supply chain, where required.
  • To ensure compliance across the Directorate by guiding stakeholders and colleagues to the best supply route.
  • To exceed customer requirements by maximising supplier value by actively engaging and managing relevant supply markets specific to the category being managed.
