Job summary

The Lane Fox service is recruiting for a Clinical Fellow on a 6 months fixed term contract.

SITE: Lane Fox Respiratory Service, St Thomas' Hospital, London & Remeo, Redhill, Surrey

We are seeking a Clinical Fellow to work with the Lane Fox Respiratory Service. The post is based at St Thomas' Hospital with some time at the Lane Fox Remeo Centre in Redhill, Surrey. Remeo is the satellite unit for the Lane Fox Respiratory Service, with a focus on medium-term rehabilitation and respiratory weaning. There is daily Consultant presence and training opportunities at both sites.

Less than full time applicants are encouraged. The post is available from February 2024.

This job will enable the post-holder to hone clinical skills in a complex patient group, with daily Consultant input, and if desired, to undertake small projects that will enable career progression.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will work with Consultants, Senior nurses, and Senior Therapists (Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Dietician) to deliver a high standard of clinical care to the patients.

Please note detailed knowledge of respiratory failure and ventilation is not required

About us

The Lane Fox Respiratory Service is a national and international referral centre for respiratory weaning, physical rehabilitation and long-term ventilation [non-invasive and invasive]. We support a large population (over 2000 patients) with non-invasive ventilation, and an increasing number of tracheostomy ventilated patients in the community. We are unique in the UK in providing 24-hour medical, nursing and technical back-up for patients in the community.

There are a number of outpatient clinics that can provide training opportunities, if desired, at both sites. Patient seen include those with:

  • chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
  • obesity related sleep disorders
  • neuromuscular disease, eg duchenne muscular dystrophy, MND
  • chest wall disease, eg. from scoliosis
  • pulmonary hypertension

Our research is focused on improving quality of life in patients with chronic respiratory disease and includes:

  • advanced physiological monitoring and ventilatory strategies in sleep and chronic respiratory failure
  • muscle wasting, weakness and rehabilitation

The post-holder would be encouraged to develop research skills, if desired.
