Job Summary
This post is based within acute medicine and predominantly with the SDEC team.
The successful candidate will be the general medical registrar taking part in the acute unselected medical take rota. The position holder will provide ongoing care to medical inpatients, work within the Same Day Emergency Care service and will work within a team including supervision of junior staff. At interview we will be looking to recruit IMT3/ST3+ level Trust Doctor General (Internal) Medicine.This is a busy clinical post offering good experience in General Medicine or Acute Medicine in an academic teaching hospital at IMT3/ST3+ (StR) level. The successful post-holder(s) will be attached to a general medicine or acute medicine firms. The position holder has the opportunity to consider using this year to get equivalence for IMT3 sign off and will be able to access the training opportunities available to both IMT3 doctors.
We are looking for a candidate who can start as soon as possible.
Draft Timetable
The general medical system at St Thomas is split into Acute Admissions Wards (AAW) and General Medical Wards (GMW). On AAW there are daily consultant ward rounds and on GMW there are thrice-weekly consultant ward rounds. The post-holder will rotate through AAW and GMW and will contribute to the on-call rota for medicine at registrar level. During the acute medical takes there are (at least) twice daily consultant post-take ward rounds.
The Acute Medicine team work between the Same Day Emergency Care unit and the General Medical day take. They form two of the medical teams working on the Acute Admissions Ward and are responsible for ongoing care of patients admitted under their team.
Job Plan
Out of hours sessions to a maximum of 48 hours per week on average Fixed sessions of direct clinical care - 10 sessions The post-holder may be expected to provide prospective and cross-cover for other members of the Team
Continuing Education
The Trust plays a leading role in the provision of education and training for medical staff and there are many opportunities to take part in Staff Rounds, Radiology Rounds, Morbidity and Mortality Meetings etc.
There will be opportunities to take part in audit and service assessments.
The appointee will enjoy the same rights to attend medical education events and to study leave as substantive appointees.
