We are looking for dynamic, motivated, enthusiastic paediatric dietitian to embrace this exciting opportunity, to work as part of a multidisciplinary team, delivering services for children with special needs.

This is exciting opportunity for a band 6 dietitian that would like to gain paediatric dietetic experience in the community, by working with highly skilled band 7 paediatric dietitians .

The dietitian will work in collaboration with multi-disciplinary team (MDT) at a consultant led feeding clinic at Sunshine House, Children and Young People's Development Centre, and and Mary Sheridan centre respectively, as well as provide expert advice to Multi Disciplinary Teams ( MDT) working groups.

Furthermore, the dietitian will see children referred for dietary assessment and advice at special needs schools in the boroughs of Southwark and Lambeth. Also, there is opportunity to work on service improvement projects as well as evaluation of our service.

The post holder will work closely with other band 7 community paediatric dietitians, advanced dietetic assistants, and other health professionals including allied health professionals, safeguarding team, school staff, SENCO, children centre staff as well as early help team, to improve the health outcomes of children referred to the service.

Main duties of the job

Job Summary

This post exists to provide specialist clinical advice and support to children with special needs who live or attend special school in the boroughs of Lambeth & Southwark This will involve working in the community with schools, parents, carers, community paediatricians and other health care professionals. The aim of the service is to ensure that children with special needs have optimum nutrition, which will prevent complications leading to morbidity and mortality.

To participate in training other community health professionals on nutritional requirements, assessing nutritional needs, as well as how to meet the nutritional needs of these children.

Children's community services

We provide a comprehensive range of services for the 121,000 children and young people that live in Lambeth and Southwark. This includes universal services - health visiting, family nurse partnership, school nursing, nutrition and dietetics, and a new born hearing screening programme. Our specialist services cover community paediatrics, speech and language therapy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, complex needs nursing, sickle cell and audiology. As well as part of statutory services including looked after children, child protection, safeguarding, and adoption and fostering.

We have two main health centres, Mary Sheridan Centre in Lambeth and Sunshine House in Southwark but we have many more across Lambeth and Southwark. We also provide services to schools, community buildings, in and occasionally in hospital. Through group sessions and individual appointments, face-to-face and virtual, we hold over 176,000 appointments every year.
