An opportunity has become available to work at St Thomas' Hospital as a band 7 Glaucoma Practitioner fixed term for 12 months -for 22.5 hours per week- (can be a shared post) Monday, Thursday and Friday only 0900-1700
We are seeking enthusiastic, autonomous Glaucoma Practitioner to join a multidisciplinary team in the Ophthalmology department at Guy's and St Thomas Hospital Foundation Trust.
This position entails monitoring and co-managing the care of complex glaucoma patients within a hospital setting. The Glaucoma Service is comprised of Glaucoma Consultants, Doctors, Specialised Glaucoma Practitioners, (Nurses, Optometrists, Orthoptists), Ophthalmic Technicians and Perimetrists assigned to glaucoma clinics.
Guy's and St. Thomas' ophthalmology unit offers a specialist referral service for patients, an ophthalmic Accident and Emergency and an established diabetic eye screening service. We regularly participate in CPD Audit and research.
Applicants must have a Healthcare degree and be registered with the appropriate bodies and must have at least years of clinical experience The job would be subject to criminal records check, references and a health check.

Main duties of the job
To provide appropriate care within specialist glaucoma clinics and in areas of own expertise. Post holder will be expected to assess, diagnose(can be a shared , formulate and review treatment plans.
To instruct patients or parents/guardians of patients on a continuous course of treatment
To regularly review glaucoma policies and implement changes with the head of Lead Glaucoma Nurse Specialist.
Liaise with Lead Glaucoma Nurse Specialist regarding any problems with service delivery.
To be responsible for administration associated with the glaucoma service. To keep and maintain appropriate records at all times on open eyes.
To be responsible for the safe keeping and maintenance of all equipment belonging to the service, including calibration of devices.
Act as a mentor for other professionals within the service and maintain a high standard of professional care and expertise.
To undertake a comprehensive ophthalmic examination including, goldmann tonometry, gonioscopy, pachymetry, and optic disc assessment, and interpretation of automated perimetry and OCT scans of optic nerves/macular imaging to ascertain a glaucoma diagnosis and assess stability of the condition and formulate a management plan.
To be able to select the appropriate ophthalmic tests for each patient
To assess patient results and act when they show instability or new clinical signs
Accurately suggest alternative glaucoma treatment with cases of unstable glaucoma, topical, laser, surgical or medical.
