Job summary

We are recruiting for a manufacturing technician to join our team to support our raw materials dispensary lead.

We manufacture medicinal products that supply the NHS and customers in Europe and would like to hear from you if you have previous experience of working in a GMP production environment within pharmaceuticals or a similar regulated industry such as food or cosmetics and would like to develop your technical skills.

As a Manufacturing Technician, you will be:

  • Setting up for all aspects of manufacturing
  • Dispensing raw materials
  • Completing batch documentation per instructions and quality standards.
  • Maintaining defined standards of Safety, GMP and Production Output.

We would like to hear from you if your background, experience, and skills include:

Experience as a Technician in pharmaceutical manufacturing or similar regulated environment

The ability to work within GMP principles, Health & Safety regulations and follow procedures

You are self-motivated with a proactive attitude

Would like to learn and develop your skills

Have a continuous improvement mind set

Excellent verbal and written communication skills - as you will need to follow detailed written instructions and record and process complete manufacturing records accurately

Good numeracy skills as you will need to complete simple mathematical calculations

Able to work alone or in a team

Main duties of the job

  • To assist the senior production technicians and supervise staff assigned to the Raw Material Dispensary & Stores, to ensure that work orders are processed in line with GMP and manufacturing deadlines.
  • To act as a unit supervisor during the collation of materials for batches of Sterile and Non-Sterile products in the Raw Material Dispensary & Stores.
  • To undertake the supervision and training of less experienced staff following suitable training.
  • To undertake the organisation and planning of staff within the work area of the Raw Material Dispensary.
  • To undertake the collation of raw materials and containers according to work orders for the manufacturing of Sterile and Non-Sterile products on the 13th floor Manufacturing unit
  • To ensure the timely delivery of materials for manufacturing direct to the 13th Floor Manufacturing Unit contained within the specially designated transfer trolleys.
  • To undertake stock checks and present in the absence of the senior technician at the weekly operational meetings.
  • To liaise with quality control and assurance to ensure the timely sampling of raw materials required for dispensing.

Job responsibilities

  1. To assist the Senior Production Technician and to supervise the staff assigned to the Raw Material Dispensary & Stores, to ensure that work orders are processed in line with GMP.
  2. To act as a unit supervisor during the collation of materials for batches of Sterile and Non-Sterile products in the Raw Material Dispensary & Stores
  3. To undertake the supervision and training of less experienced staff following suitable training
  4. To undertake the organisation and planning of staff within the work area of the Raw Material Dispensary
  5. To undertake the collation of raw materials and containers according to work orders for the manufacturing of Sterile and Non-Sterile products on the 13th floor Manufacturing uni
  6. To ensure the timely delivery of materials for manufacturing direct to the 13th Floor Manufacturing Unit contained within the specially designated transfer trolleys
  7. To liaise with the senior and principal production technicians to ensure the safe, efficient and timely delivery of work orders
  8. To undertake the manufacture of routine non-sterile products under the overall supervision of the Principal Production Technician Non-Sterile for use within and outside the Trust (where scope allows)
  9. To assist the Production team to ensure that the appropriate working environment is maintained in the Raw Material Dispensary and Stores, and that equipment and plant in these areas are kept clean and maintained to the required standard
  10. To ensure the working practices of the Raw Material Dispensary & Stores continually meet all the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work act, COSSH and other appropriate legislation as well as Trust policies such as local Manual Handling
  11. To undertake product manufacture and work order collation with agreed minimal supervision as required according to Standard Operating Procedures, Good Manufacturing Practice, Guidance on Aseptic Dispensing for NHS Patients, Health and Safety at Work Act and Departmental Procedures
  12. To be responsible for using and maintaining the specialist production equipment in the Raw Material Dispensary and Pharmacy Manufacturing facility using the correct procedures in a safe manner following adequate training
  13. To be responsible for the supervision of other unit staff in the correct use of specialist production equipment
  14. To assist in the forward planning of manufacture of Sterile and Non-Sterile products to meet the service demands of the Trust
  15. To undertake the ordering and stock control of raw materials, containers and other items used in the manufacture of Sterile and Non-Sterile products
  16. To identify occurrences and deviations that occur within the dispensing or production process and report to senior members of staff
  17. To undertake and document the monitoring of manufacturing equipment according to procedures and provide training to less experienced on the correct and safe use of equipmen
  18. To assist the senior team in the assessment of the fitness for purpose of the RMD at all times, including monitoring and review of cleaning logs, state of repair and pest control
  19. To make recommendations to senior staff regarding changes in procedures to improve quality and efficiency within the work area and to comment on proposed changes
  20. To assist in the preparation and processing of materials required for research or clinical trials under the supervision of the Principal Production Technician
  21. To ensure that all documentation associated with Raw Material and Container dispensing is filled in correctly, processed and filed in the correct place, including product documentation
  22. To participate in the training of new and rotational staff within the Pharmacy Manufacturing Unit.
  23. To attend courses and undertake training to develop expertise in Pharmacy Manufacturing where training needs are identified
  24. To supervise, and undertake when required, the weekly and monthly cleaning of the Raw Material Dispensary & Stores along with the manufacturing unit. To assist in maintaining the general tidiness of the unit
  25. To undertake the preparation of documentation and labels using available computer systems and master documents for the preparation of all products
  26. To advise the senior team on amending working practices which would improve the running of the service, the quality of the service provided and improvement in Health and Safety issues/COSS
