Are you interested in becoming a Guy's and St Thomas' Stroke Research Nurse?
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Research Nurse to work as part of the Stroke Service at St Thomas' hospital.
The stroke service is a highly functioning centre within South London CRN delivering to a wide range of stroke studies on the NIHR portfolio. These studies range from observational to randomised controlled trials incorporating a number of research strands including translational, secondary prevention and rehabilitation. Within the portfolio, there are opportunities to be involved in delivering CTIMPs to a wide range of stroke patients managed in a comprehensive stroke unit at St Thomas'. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with senior stroke clinicians with a wealth of stroke research experience in a supportive, educational and clinically effective environment. St Thomas' has a strong track record in delivering major multi centre trials testing acute interventions in stroke, many of which have now been translated into clinical practice.
In addition, there is plenty of scope to be involved in a number of educational stroke specific meeting locally and regionally within South London whereby one can enhance research delivery expertise.
Main duties of the job
As a clinical research nurse in stroke you will find many exciting opportunities to develop. As well as delivering to stroke studies, you will be exposed to the clinical environment of stroke and the many facets of evidence based care deployed. You will have the opportunity to learn skills in liaising with patients with complex neurological impairments and providing them the opportunity to participate in a plethora of stroke studies. You will be part of the multidisciplinary team and have the opportunity to collaborate and liaise with members of this team, thereby understanding the criteria for entry into studies.
The Research Nurse will be responsible for the stroke portfolio of clinical trials to improve patient recruitment and ensure accurate and timely completion of trial data and documentation. Duties will include identifying potential patients to participate in trials, coordinating trials as per study protocols, collection of clinical data on Case Report Forms (CRFs), and following the principles of Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
The successful candidate will be registered nurse with previous experience of working in stroke and/or research. You must have a good communication and clinical skills, as well as the ability to identify deteriorating patients and take appropriate action. Previous experience and understanding of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and the regulatory environment that surrounds clinical research would be an advantage.
