Job summary
Upper Airway Speech and Language Therapist
We are looking for an enthusiastic and hard-working therapist to join the Upper Airway Speech and Language Therapy team, based at the Royal Brompton Hospital. Our ideal candidate will have a genuine interest in breathing and voice difficulties and an ability to form a positive, effective therapeutic rapport with our patients.
Main duties of the job
You will receive support and training from the Consultant Upper Airway SLT, treating outpatients with a range of upper airway disorders. You will take the lead in running the Chronic Cough and Voice Therapy Groups and contribute to our recently established support group for patients with inducible laryngeal obstruction. There will be opportunities to attend consultant-led clinics and you will have a central role alongside the Consultant SLT in running our highly specialist continuous laryngoscopy during provocation (CLP) clinic. You will be a key member of the upper airway multidiscipinary team, attending our weekly meeting to discuss case management and review laryngoscopy images.
About us
Our Upper Airway Service was established by Dr James Hull nine years ago for the treatment of patients with chronic cough, laryngeal hypersensitivity, inducible laryngeal obstruction, and voice conditions related to respiratory disease. We are one of the leading centres in the UK with expertise in treating upper airway disorders and receive referrals from home and abroad. We are regularly invited to present at national and international meetings and our work is often reported in the media. Our service has progressed significantly in the last nine years and we have plans for further innovative practice, to ensure that our patients continue to receive the most effective treatment possible.
Our department has a thriving in-service teaching programme, delivered by colleagues with well-established reputations in their specialist area of work. The Trust is extremely supportive of CPD activity and there will be opportunities for audit, research and conference presentations.
