Job summary

Royal Brompton & Harefield hospital have recently become a clinical group of Guys and St Thomas's NHS Trust and form the largest post-graduate specialist heart and lung centre in the UK. We are two specialist hospitals which are known throughout the world for our expertise, standard of care and research success.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated therapy Assistant who is looking to progress their career in a healthcare setting and become an important member of a well-established and highly respected Pulmonary rehabilitation team. This role will suit those who have a keen interest in exercise, health promotion and chronic respiratory disease management.

Main duties of the job

You will have the opportunity to work with a specialist team of physiotherapists & exercise physiologists providing an accredited Pulmonary Rehabilitation service, based at Harefield Hospital with its own well-equipped gym. You will assist in all aspects of the delivery of the service; including community-based Pulmonary Rehab, the oxygen service and close working with a dedicated research team and alongside other members of the multidisciplinary team. You will be closely supported by and receive regular teaching from highly skilled, experienced clinicians.

Job responsibilities

To work across Harefield Hospital and the local community to assist the Physiotherapists / Exercise Physiologists in providing a specialist service to patients in pulmonary rehabilitation and respiratory medicine.

To independently carry out patient assessments with regards to exercise testing, quality of life assessment, spirometry and ambulatory oxygen.

To assist the pulmonary rehabilitation Physiotherapists / Exercise Physiologists in running rehab classes for adults with chronic respiratory disease.

To work under their own initiative but with access to support and supervision from other team members

To write reports and discharge letters to referring consultants and GPs detailing the patients assessment and progress.

To act as lead for the purchasing of and ensuring regular maintenance of the pulmonary rehabilitation equipment.

To assist in the management of referrals to the pulmonary rehabilitation service and other administration work as required, liaising with other team members as appropriate.
