Job summary

We are seeking a full-time (7 PA) Consultant to join a dynamic, enthusiastic and forward thinking team, which has undergone significant growth in the last decade. The department is currently involved in many exciting initiatives and are looking for individuals with appropriate skills to complement this team and help build the HIV and SRH Service to be in the forefront of clinical and academic excellence.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a first class team in an active and progressive central London teaching hospital environment.

The Harrison wing offers a wide range of services to patients with HIV. The new consultant will take a lead on young adults living with HIV, caring for young people who were born with HIV, and have transitioned from paediatric care, or have acquired HIV under the age of 25. The post-holder will undertake general and specialist HIV outpatient sessions based in the Harrison Wing at Guys Hospital. They will be expected to take an active role in research and development and to participate in the teaching programs of the department.

The SRH department offers a number of specialist services including a rapidly expanding PrEP service, outreach, young people's services, complex STI, genital dermatology and psychosexual services. Within SRH, the post holder will have the opportunity to conduct and supervise general clinics, with the option of developing a specialist interest. Initially they could lead the SRH young person's clinic.

Main duties of the job

Your job plan is anticipated to contain 7 Programmed Activities per week on average to be carried out on Guy's & St Thomas' sites and includes on-call commitments. This is an outline programme and you will be expected to discuss and agree a detailed job plan including your personal and professional objectives with your Clinical Lead within 3 months of your start date.

As an organisation, we are committed to developing our services in ways that best suit the needs of our patients. This includes asking certain groups of staff to work more flexibly so that we can offer services to patients in the evenings and at weekends. We regard this flexibility as essential if we are to continue to provide first class patient care in the future. As a result, any offer of employment to a consultant post will be subject to you agreeing to work a new more flexible pattern of working in the future if required and in accordance with the provisions of the new Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust consultant contract.

The job plan will be negotiated between the consultant and their clinical director/lead at least annually.
