Job summary

The post holder will work as part of a community paediatric team, across Lambeth and Southwark , providing services in neurodevelopment and , neurodisability They will also form part statutory health services , including child protection , Looked after children and SEND.

They will work closely with key agencies outside of the trust such as social care , GP's, and schools.

They will also work s as part of the multidisciplinary team working with children and families . .

Main duties of the job

The post holder will assess children and young people and provide a diagnosis and provide a care plan.

They will liaise with other clinicians and agencies, such as allied health professionals , CAMHS, Education and Social care.

They will undertake a medical examination of any child who may have sustained or be at risk of a non- accidental injury.

Developmental Medicine and Neurodisability-To assess children and young people and provide a differential diagnosis and care plan.- To carry out other medical and neurodevelopmental examinations on children and young people where appropriate including diagnostic assessments for ASD.-To support the care of children and young people with neurodisability including participation in MDT clinics- To liaise with other specialties and participate in inter-disciplinary and interagency meetings as needed to promote the health and wellbeing of children, and contribute to transition planning.-To undertake the medical examination of children as laid down in the SEND code of practice and Children and Families Act 2014, and to write reports as appropriate to support Education and Health Care Plans.-To develop care pathways across acute, and community services of Evelina London and KHP.-To liaise with other agencies on clinical and operational matters relevant to the work of the service.

-Liaise with professional leads from other agencies, such as Education and Childrens social care.

Child Protection- Be trained and familiar with Trust child protection policy and have safeguarding at the heart of your practice.- To work closely with all Trust staff and external agencies on Child Protection work and participate in the children protection day on call rota ; which may also include participating in the child sexual abuse clinics-To be vigilant in the early detection and possible prevention of child abuse in any form, and screen for domestic abuse appropriately.- To undertake the medical examination of any child who may have sustained or be at risk of non-accidental injury.- To assess the health and development of children known to be at risk of child abuse and to provide reports to appropriate agencies.- To attend case conferences where required either as the doctor who has seen the child or as representative of the Trust.-To ensure the parts of the child protection plan relevant to our service are carried out.- To attend Court as required.- To ensure that senior staff are kept informed at all times and that advice is sought appropriately and in accordance with Trust policy.

Social Paediatrics-To work with other members of paediatric team to provide clinical assessments and management of children in care of the local authority

Teaching and Training- To participate in the training of other staff as required, e.g. induction programmes for new medical staff and training for GP registrars, specialist registrars, health visitors, and inter- agency training .-To participate in the teaching of medical students as required

Clinical Governance and Audit-To contribute to the maintenance of high clinical standards of the departmentthrough involvement in audit, and clinical governance activities

Liaison Role- The post holder will be expected to liaise effectively with other Trust staff, GPs,hospital staff and other agencies in the course of the work of the post.

CPD and Individual Development- The post holder will be expected to keep up to date with developments in child health and to participate in CPD activities at least up to the level recommended by the Royal College (RCPCH), in order to fulfill professional and Trust commitments at all times to a satisfactory level.-The post holder will be expected to partake in the annual appraisal cycle.

Safeguarding children and vulnerable adults-Post holders have a general responsibility for safeguarding children and vulnerable adults in the course of their daily duties and for ensuring that they are aware of the specific duties relating to their role

Essential

  • Eligible for full UK GMC registration and a Licence to practice.
  • A postgraduate diploma in paediatrics or MRCPCH

  • Postgraduate degree in paediatrics/neurodisability

Experience

  • At least 5 years in higher specialist training in community paediatrics, neurodevelopment paediatrics and child protection
  • Clinical experience in the field of safeguarding and substantial experience of the legislation relating to children and young people and the court process
  • Wide experience in general paediatrics with specialist knowledge of community child health
