Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, motivated experienced physiotherapist who is keen to develop their knowledge and skills in paediatric respiratory care, PICU and paediatric cardiac services.
The post is full time, fixed term for 18 months, and will work closely with the other PICU and acute band 7's and clinical lead. As an autonomous practitioner, you will be expected to share a leadership role within the clinical environment of PICU, contribute to the development of staff, and engage with ongoing service development.
You will also work closely with the paediatric MDT and be responsible for setting up a charity funded, patient centered physiotherapy service for children with arrhythmia and those fitted with cardiac devices to help them engage in physical activity. This will be the first such service in the UK.
The successful candidate, working within this highly skilled physiotherapy and paediatric multidisciplinary team, will have the opportunity to develop their own expertise and be encouraged to integrate research into their role.
You will need to have significant postgraduate experience across a number of specialities, with relevant paediatric experience, including paediatric critical care. Experience in staff management and service development is beneficial. Excellent organisational and communication skills are essential.
Main duties of the job
As an autonomous practitioner you will be responsible for the provision of highly specialised assessment, treatment and management of children and adolescents on the ward, PICU, cardiac outpatients and via video.
The role will be based at the Royal Brompton hospital in Chelsea, but you may expect some cross site working within the Trust. Two days a week will be dedicated to PICU and 3 days a week will work alongside the paediatric arrhythmia service.
You will share a leadership role on PICU and supervise, manage, and appraise more junior physiotherapy staff. You will promote audit, service development and evidence-based practice within the team.
Using excellent communication and team working skills you will work closely with the paediatric MDT to provide specific exercise and physical activity advice and education to children diagnosed with arrhythmias (inherited, acquired and congenital) and those treated with cardiac devices (pacemaker and implantable cardioverter defibrillators) and their families.
You will be encouraged to access internal and external training opportunities and will receive regular supervision to allow you to develop into the role. With support, you will design a future interventional study objectively measuring activity levels and outcomes post physiotherapy intervention for patients with arrhythmias and cardiac devices.
