Main duties of the job

The South Thames Retrieval Service Coordinator is responsible for the day to day smooth running of the South Thames Retrieval Service. This involves: overseeing training of new retrieval nurses and induction of new medical trainees; working closely with the ambulance company and technicians; taking responsibility for the ongoing training of multidisciplinary team members; ensuring retrieval equipment is maintained to a high standard; liaising with national organisations including Paediatric Critical Care Society Acute Transport Group and Children's Air Ambulance; overseeing development and updating of standard operating procedures in order to ensure safe transport of critically ill children.

In partnership with members of the multidisciplinary team the post holder will develop, implement and evaluate a seamless paediatric emergency transport service STRS, ensuring that patients receive the highest standard of clinical care. They act as a lead specialist and will demonstrate a high level of expertise within the specialist service, providing specialist advice, education and support to health care professionals within the service and the South Thames Region. The post holder will actively undertake clinical audits and research within the specialist area.
