Job summary
This post will comprise working as part of the Skin Therapy Research Unit under the supervision of Dr. Andrew Pink & Prof. Catherine Smith. You will receive comprehensive training to participate in all aspects of clinical research from delivery through to communication of results.
You will work as part of and be supported by a large and well established multi-disciplinary research team with a strong track record of producing high impact, translational research. This role could provide an ideal platform for candidates to explore MD/PhD options should they wish to.
Main duties of the job
This post will be focussed on the BEACON and BEACONomics trial but post holder may also be asked to contribute to other investigator led and commercial trials within the unit. The BEACON trial will provide the first ever comprehensive evidence on the comparative effectiveness, tolerability and cost-effectiveness of ciclosporin, methotrexate and dupilumab in the treatment of moderate to severe adult eczema. BEACON is a UK-wide (36 sites) randomised, controlled, 12-month assessor-blind trial in 402 adults who require systemic treatment for their eczema. The trial will use a platform design to enable new biologic and oral therapies for eczema to be included in the trial as additional comparator arms in the future. https://www.beacontrial.org/
BEACONomics is an innovative research study embedded within the BEACON trial that seeks to better understand how eczema treatments work. Using a Team Science approach, BEACONomics brings together leading experts in eczema, clinical trials, skin biology and patients. We will use samples donated by people taking part in the BEACON trial to investigate changes in the skin and blood before and during each treatment. We will use cutting-edge science to investigate these changes at very high resolution. This means that we will know, at a molecular level, how each cell is working and communicating with other cells.
