Job summary

Applications are invited for a Locum Consultant in the The Lane Fox Service . This is a fixed term contract providing 4 programmed activities per week for 12 months. The applicant will support the specialist post-polio service . The post-holder will provide clinical review of patients with long term consequences of polio. The established clinic currently serves a population of >400 patients from a large geographical area.

Main duties of the job

This is a part time role (4PAs) which includes supporting a specialist post-polio service, the post-holder will provide clinical review of patients with long term consequences of polio. The established clinic currently serves a population of >400 patients from a large geographical area.

The successful applicant will be expected to take an active role in education and research within the Lane Fox Service with time allocated within the job plan for this activity. This is an excellent opportunity to join a first class team in an active and progressive central London teaching hospital environment.

The post would be suitable for consultants with experience in the management of patients with complex multi-morbidity and frailty such as rehabilitation medicine of medicine for the elderly.

About us

The Lane Fox Respiratory Service is an internationally recognised weaning, rehabilitation and home mechanical ventilation service. Since 2012, the activity has increased by the introduction of 7-day working, opening of the Lane Fox-REMEO Centre, re-structuring the outpatient clinics and increasing the acuity of the inpatient service, supported by the installation of a comprehensive electronic patient record and central monitoring system. This has required an enhancement of the specialist workforce including consultants, nurses, therapists, technicians and administrative staff to support the inpatient service, outpatient, outreach and technical services across paediatrics and adults. There is plans for further development of the outpatient service with an increase in elective inpatient beds on the St Thomas' site.

The Lane Fox Respiratory Service is the largest ventilation, weaning and rehabilitation service in the UK with over >2500 patients on the home ventilation programme and an annual turnover of over £21m. The service contributes significantly to the financial position of the Trust.

There is the option to provide support for spasticity management in the current service if the post-holder has the appropriate skills but this is not a pre-requisite for the role.

The post would be suitable for consultants with experience in the management of patients with complex multi-morbidity and frailty such as rehabilitation medicine of medicine for the elderly.

Essential

  • Eligible for full UK GMC registration and a Licence to Practise
  • On GMC Specialist Register or within six months of attaining CCT in General Internal Medicine, rehabilitation medicine, care of elderly medicine.
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • MRCP or equivalent

Clinical Experience

Essential

  • Experience in the management of patients with multi-morbidity and frailty

Desirable

  • Experience of post-polio syndrome

Clinical Skills

Essential

  • Assessment of patients with multi-morbidity
