Job summary
This appointment is an excellent opportunity for physician trainees aiming to gain experience in COVID-19 and new systems. The primary role of the post holder is to provide medical support for COVID-19 related activity at GSTT.The post holder will be embedded in a novel clinical team working to address challenges particular to COVID-19. Direct supervision will be by experienced senior clinicians supporting the implementation of novel COVID services, in an area benefitting from both on-site acute medical services and experienced administrativesupport.
You will also support quality improvement initiatives and perform risk assessments and risk mitigation strategies for COVID-19 related problems.
The post is advertised as a 6 month post in the first instance but we would consider applicants interested in a shorter period of working. Subject to appropriate applications there may be opportunities at GSTT for the appropriate candidate in other COVID-related teams such as infection, medicine or COVID-research following post.
Main duties of the job
Support the timely delivery of clinical services to acceptable medical standards, in-line with the requirements of appropriate guidelines and regulationsProvide medical assessment and cover for COVID-19 related activities, working alongside clinical nurses and administrative staff
In partnership with the senior clinical team, initiate definitive strategies toanticipate and expertly manage medical safety issues, including emergenciesSupport aspects of medical triage, including pre-attendance medical histories, informed consent, medical examinations, dosing of medicationWhere required, provide medical cover outside of normal working hours, as determined by the nature of the activity being undertaken at that time- there is an expectation the working day will be 8.30am-5.30pm in the post and the working pattern will be across 7 days but within junior doctor contract requirements (e.g this may lead to working Wed-Sun rather than a more usual.

The COVID team T) is a platform for providing new services related to the pandemic. This has ranged from roll-out of vaccination hubs across the organisation to the planning of a new unit for managingthose with early COVID infection.
This accelerates discovery of novel approaches to the prevention, diagnosis and therapy in COVID-19. The COVID team works closely with infection teams and medicine teams and the appropriate candidate may havean interest in these aspects.
