Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced midwife to join the maternal medicine team in the South East London (SEL) Maternal Medicine Network (MMN) . The purpose of the maternal medicine midwife is to lead and support the local development of the maternal medicine service at one of the 3 District General Hospitals (GDH) in SEL in collaboration with the SEL MMN Leads. The GDH are Princess Royal University Hospital Farnborough, Queen Elizabeth Woolwich and University Hospital Lewisham. This in line with the maternal medicine network commitment to ensuring that all women/birthing people in the network's footprint with significant medical problems receive timely specialist care and advice before, during, and after pregnancy.
The post holder will be a champion for women/birthing people with significant medical problems and the expectation is that the post holder will be responsible for promoting good quality midwifery/ obstetric led interventions, at the DGH where they are based, which aim to improve outcomes for all women/birthing people with significant medical problems before, during, and after pregnancy.

Main duties of the job
- To work in accordance with the NMC Standards for nurses and midwives
- To be responsible for the provision of a high quality, woman centred midwifery service for the Trust, in line with the national and Trust standards
- To work with the multidisciplinary team to continually monitor the quality of care that women receive and improve outcomes in line with the MMN
- To identify areas for improvement and to take a lead role in designing, implementing and supporting new and existing initiatives
- Provide professional leadership including motivation of staff regarding new ways of working to meet the needs of the MMN?
- Development and lead an effective day to day running of specialist programmes of care for specific patient groups with a multi-disciplinary team. This involve support of clinics for women with complex medical conditions.
- To be involved in the review of Maternal Medicine guidelines to improve the recognition and treatment of women with medical conditions
- Provide up-to-date, evidenced based information and education for colleagues and students to enhance knowledge and skills relating to the women with medical conditions antenatally, in labour and postnatally in line with MMN guidance.
- Conduct regular reviews of the effectiveness of any new approaches through an established Quality Improvement programme, audit or research to ensure they effectively address the needs of the local population and cascade onwards or formally write up for a research article where appropriate.
