Job summary
The post holder is required to deliver an advanced level of clinical practice within the field of Podiatry. It will include a specialist and complex caseload of high risk patients in a community setting. Interventions will occur in the community clinics and domiciliary setting, but may also occur in hospital based wards and clinics.
Advanced clinical practice is a level of practice characterised by a high degree of autonomy and complex decision making. This is underpinned by a master's level award or equivalent that encompasses the four pillars of clinical practice, leadership and management, education and research, with demonstration of core capabilities and area specific clinical competence.
Advanced clinical practice embodies the ability to manage clinical care in partnership with individuals, families and carers. It includes the analysis and synthesis of complex problems across a range of settings, enabling innovative solutions to enhance people's experience and improve outcomes.
This definition therefore requires that health and care professionals working at this level of advanced clinical practice exercise autonomy and confident Decision making in a context of complexity, uncertainty and varying levels of risk, holding accountability for their decisions.
Main duties of the job
Clinical
- Provide clinical Podiatric expertise, ensuring that clients and/or carers are involved in decision making and care planning wherever possible.
- Provide highly specialist clinical advice to staff, including advice on therapeutic management, antibiotic management and stewardship, progression of input, clinical risk management and discharge planning.
- Provide highly advanced clinical and professional supervision to staff.
- Carry out a weekly clinical commitment and domiciliary visits.

- Ensure the management of clinical risk, the monitoring of Podiatrists performance against agreed quality indicators and standards across the service, and ensure an effective peer review/supervision structure for Podiatrists across the service is in place
- Provide line management, appraisals and performance management of staff including investigations as directed by the Head of Service.
- To participate in Trust wide and local quality and innovation initiatives.
- Provide effective clinical and professional advice into the appraisal process and training needs assessment for all Podiatry staff across the service.
