Job summary

The post holder will work as a staff nurse within the School Nursing team promoting the wellbeing of the school aged children and their families and carer's within schools and the community.

You will need to be very organized, confident and skilled in working with children and young people in school and other education provider settings.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work as a staff nurse within the School Nursing team promoting the wellbeing of the school aged children and their families and carer's within schools and the community. S/he will be responsible for working within a designated caseload delegated by the School Nurse Team Leader within the School nursing team, and with other professionals including statutory and voluntary agencies.

  • To assist the school nurse and team leader in delivering the core school nursing service with assessing, planning implementing programmes of care.
  • To participate in the needs assessment of local populations and work collaboratively to improve public health.
  • To seek out and offer and teach health promotion and preventative opportunities to children, young people their families and carers with the school nurse team and promote positive health management.
  • To maintain effective communication with children, young people, their families and carers and professionals and all other agencies involved in client care ensuring individualised client centred approach.
  • To actively support and empower children, young people, their families and carers in their chronic disease management and to work towards preventing the complications of long-tem conditions.
  • To actively participate in the running of enuresis clinics
  • To make safe and appropriate evidence based clinical decisions and the able to provide a rationale behind decisions and actions.
  • To have an understanding and awareness of the nurses responsibility in safeguarding vulnerable clients, including children, young people and adults.
  • To work in collaboration with parent/carers and other professionals including statutory and voluntary agencies.
  • Under direction of the School Nurse Team Leader, access and attend child protection clinical supervision when required.
  • To ensure that high standards of infection control are integral to all aspects of nursing practice.
