Job summary

The Clinical Imaging and Medical Physics (CLIMP) directorate is seeking an experienced leader with extensive clinical imaging experience to be its new Head of Radiology Services. This role will provide expert professional, clinical and strategic leadership of the Radiology Service, including its radiography, sonography and clinical support workforce, across the Guy's, St Thomas' and Evelina London sites.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be supported by and clinically accountable to the Clinical Director(s) of CLIMP, and professionally accountable to the Chief AHP. The Head of Radiology Services will be responsible for the development and implementation of a professional radiography workforce strategy. Acting as a role model of Trust values and creating a culture of collaborative, partnership working, the post holder will develop strong internal and external professional working relationships to effectively lead the transformation and optimisation of the Radiography workforce. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that radiographers, sonographers and support staff have a single point of visibility and accountable, professional leadership across the organisation.

About us

The Radiology Service is the largest of the three services within Clinical Imaging and Medical Physics (CLIMP), with an establishment of approximately 580 WTE based at Guy's Hospital, St Thomas' Hospital, Evelina Hospital, and Guy's Cancer Centre. The service provides the full range of radiology modalities across the estate. The service is subdivided into Diagnostic Radiology, Paediatric Radiology and Interventional Radiology, with separate Clinical Service Leads for each area. It operates out of 7 fixed locations and, additionally, provides remote imaging support in theatres, wards and day surgery units. Diagnostic Imaging and Interventional Radiology support is provided 24 hours per day 365 days per year. The Service is one of the largest in the country and plays an active role in supporting both medical and allied health professionals' training. The Interventional Radiology department, in particular, is recognised as a leading European centre, undertaking the broadest range of procedures. The department performs over 500,000 procedures for the Trust, Primary Care and other institutions per annum. We support a wide range of Clinical Specialists, as well as offering diagnostic guidance. The Department has an international reputation for innovation and early introduction of new technology and procedures.

  • Diploma of the College of Radiographers or BSc or equivalent
  • HCPC registration
  • Masters level qualification or evidence of equivalence
  • Evidence of maintaining continuous professional development with advanced relevant theoretical and practical knowledge

Desirable

  • Postgraduate training in specialist modality or management qualification
  • Leadership qualification

Experience

Essential

  • Recent clinical experience at senior Radiographer level in an acute healthcare setting meet all of its objectives.
  • Significant experience of managing complex resource and budget in excess of £5million
  • Experience of Imaging workforce planning and transformation / redesign
  • Detailed evidence of strategy formulation for Radiology Services.
  • Experience of defined change management.

Desirable

  • Experience in change management at a senior level
  • System level Imaging leadership input

Skills

Essential

  • Ability to influence, negotiate with, and motivate senior managers and clinicians to enable the delivery of change programmes through developing and maintaining close working relationships.
  • Excellent oral and written communication including advanced formal presentation / facilitation skill including needing to present to large groups including senior staff & external professional bodies
