Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced nurse/AHP to join our Lung Division at the Royal Brompton Hospital as the Deputy Team Lead on our Targeted Lung Health Check project. This post is available on a fixed-term basis until end March 2024.

The Targeted Lung Health Check project is part of an NHSE programme aimed at diagnosing lung cancer earlier by identifying high-risk individuals and offering them health checks and CT scans in accessible locations across West London.

Your role would involve assisting in the leading of a team to organise and deliver lung health checks with patients aged 55-74 who are smokers and ex-smokers from the local community. Health checks include taking a detailed history, simple lung tests such as spirometry and carrying out a risk assessment and referral for CT scans. You would be required to help lead the clinical delivery of the expansion which will include offering incident round scans and extending the reach of the project, as well as undertaking regular lung health check clinics.

You will be assisting in leading a strong team of nurses and coordinators, working alongside the Assistant General Manager, radiologists, medical teams and cancer alliance.

The successful candidate will be an experienced respiratory nurse/AHP with strong project management, data and IT skills. You will be an agile self-starter, who can lead the team to deliver the programme against agreed targets.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will assist in the management, coordination and implementation of the lung health check project, and provide clinical mentorship to staff.

The post holder will be responsible for the day to day management of the lung health check team including their continuing professional development and overall performance of the programme, as well as undertaking regular patient clinics, providing additional clinic capacity, as well as cover for sickness and annual leave as required.
