Job summary

Evelina London Children's Hospital is at the heart of a network of children's health services across South East England. We provide a comprehensive range of children's healthcare services and we continue to evolve, grow and transform our services.

We are excited to be able to expand our Clinical Nurse Specialist team for Paediatric Orthopaedic service. The successful candidate will work as part of the existing Paediatric Orthopaedic team, with a commitment to support the development and operational needs for the orthopaedic service and to ensure that patients are receiving person-centered care at all times.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an experienced nurse to join the Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery Team.

You will be an expert communicator and educator, able to manage complex situations and support children and families. Previous experience caring for orthopaedic patients is essential.

The team is dynamic and highly productive. We collaborate closely with our patients and their families throughout the care pathway. Being a part of this team offers valuable learning experience and will afford the post-holder opportunity to collaborate with a variety of clinicians

The successful candidate will be involved with nurse-led clinics including pre-assessment, fracture clinic, MDT clinics and co-ordinate the paediatricin-patients list and reviews, whilst supporting the development and operational needs of the paediatric frame service.

  • Independently perform nurse led clinics for both chronic and post-operative patients.
  • Provide coordination of care for patients on the Trauma Pathway.
  • Obtain/maintain orthopaedic clinical skills
  • Provide preoperative education for patients/families undergoing surgery.
  • Provide postoperative ward rounds, hospital discharge review and patient/parent education.
  • Provide triage for patients and escalate complex issues to surgeons.
  • Manage and support the Band 6 Deputy Clinical Nurse Specialist
  • Provide education and support for ward staff caring for your patients.
  • Complete service improvement projects.
  • Support team research projects, audits and data collection, etc.
  • Continue to support the wards, and maintain ward skills, by doing one ward shift per 6-8 weeks rota.
