The obstetric medicine service at GSTFT has an international reputation and receives referral from all over the UK. The successful candidate would work under the supervision of the obstetric medicine consultants Professor Catherine Nelson-Piercy, Dr Anita Banerjee, Dr Oseme Etomi and Professor Catherine Williamson who work as part of several multidisciplinary teams with the consultant obstetricians and maternal fetal medicine specialists and specialist midwives caring for women with medical problems in pregnancy.
Main duties of the job
This post is designed to support SpRs/StRs who wish to make a commitment to education as part of their career. This is a six to twelve month joined programme' post aimed at those who wish to build on their personal teaching experience, develop expertise in educational theory and practice, and undertake supervised educational research. In tandem with this the post offers unique training in the clinical practice of obstetric medicine. The duration is dependent on the applicant's personal circumstances together with those of the unit.
Although an enthusiasm for teaching is a prerequisite, no assumptions will be made about formal knowledge of educational theory or practice. Hands-on teaching will be central to the post, as will a critical engagement with educational issues around providing postgraduate training in a changing context, both nationally and locally.

This post is designed for a ST4 7 level trainee to:
- Develop/ expand their skills in Medical Education
- Gain a qualification in Medical Education through KCL
- Publish research on their chosen area of interest in Medical Education
The post would be particularly suited to any acute medicine trainee wishing to complete the special skills module in Obstetric medicine.
The post potentially counts towards part of CCST training depending on the post holders individual circumstances.
The job will allow the successful post holder to undertake focussed training in Medical Education and obstetric medicine. The post holder may if they wish contribute to the Senior trainee acute medicine on call rota of their medical speciality for 50% of their contracted time. This on call clinical commitment will ensure that the post holder maintains their clinical involvement in acute medicine during the attachment. The other 50% of the time will be spent in Post Graduate Medical Education.
The post holder will have an opportunity to gain a Medical Educational qualification via the Institute of Education, University of London or the Kings Learning Institute, Kings College London (KCL), to the level of Certificate in Medical Education/Clinical Pedagogy as part of their on-going studies towards a MA/MSC. Funding towards this will be provided by Guys and St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust (GSTT).
