South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust

Clinical Support Desk Practitioner - Bicester

The closing date is 29 March 2026

Job summary

Every day, thousands of patients contact our NHS 999 service seeking urgent care advice.

Behind those calls are experienced clinicians making important decisions that help ensure patients receive the right care, in the right place, at the right time.

We are looking for experienced Paramedics/Nurses to join our Clinical Support Desk within the Clinical Coordination Centre, where you will play a vital role in supporting urgent care across the NHS.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will monitor emergency 999 calls received by Emergency Call Takers (ECTS) to ensure the most clinically appropriate care outcomes are delivered to patients. Using your clinical expertise, you'll be required to make dynamic assessment decisions; supported through the effective use of Trust evidence based clinical telephone decision support software systems.

This is a unique role where your clinical judgement directly supports patient safety and system flow across urgent care services.

Please note that courses are scheduled to run monthly from May 2026.

Main duties of the job

  1. Work within a team as an autonomous practitioner, providing high-quality clinical telephone triage using decision-support systems
  2. Assess incoming symptom-based calls and determine urgency and priority.
  3. Provide evidence-based clinical advice and support onward referral within the NHS.
  4. Communicate clinical information verbally and via technical links effectively with healthcare partners to ensure seamless care.
  5. Contribute to achieving national ambulance standards and local performance targets.
  6. Participate in team meetings and work with managers to maintain strong performance.
  7. Engage in monthly call audits and ongoing self-reflection.
