Job summary
This is an exciting and well-developed role for a skilled &/or developing OD practitioner leading and participating in a broad range of OD initiatives aligned to our People Strategy. The successful applicant should be strong in collaborative teamwork whilst being comfortable with a high degree of individual autonomy in both a virtual and in-person environment. The postholder will predominantly be working from home and can be based anywhere across the SCAS geography, however, travel to and between events across the south east will also be required on occasions when a physical presence would add value.
Main duties of the job
The nature of OD means we have a range of initiatives being designed, tested and embedded throughout the year. These will vary but are likely to include talent management; quality of appraisal; developing leadership and management modules or an innovative, culturally focussed onboarding process for new recruits. The postholder needs to have:
- Proven skills in the application of OD principles, theories and models
- Proven people leadership skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Proven track record in working with senior managers
- Ability to plan over short, medium and long-term timeframes
- Ability to analyse complex issues using diverse intelligence sources

- Lead, support, promote and advance the OD agenda creating meaningful change for the benefit of SCAS, the wider NHS healthcare system and ultimately the public.
- Be responsible for the collation and completion of a talent management case study report on behalf of Frimley ICS.
- Work collaboratively with individuals, teams and groups across the organisation and the wider NHS healthcare system (regional partners or Ambulance sector)
- Play a key role in maximising the effectiveness of Leaders and Managers across a portfolio of Talent/Succession, Leadership, culture & culture change
- Play an active role in senior leadership development in SCAS including the further scoping, development and evaluation of the leadership & management pathway.
- Join the facilitation team for OD-led initiatives such as the SCAS Leader development programme, leadership forums or other medium to large group interventions. This will include both virtual and/or face to face delivery of various content and modules to mixed cohorts across all organisational departments. Training and support for both facilitation and technological skills will be provided as required.
- Support and participate in team development work including the design & delivery of local, regional, or national events
- Be responsible for delivering individual sessions (eg. MBTI, coaching or 360 feedback) within SCAS and across the wider NHS healthcare system with clarity, sensitivity and understanding
- Provide and receive complex, sensitive, or contentious information. Where there are significant barriers to making progress, this will require well-developed interpersonal and communication skills within conflicting or highly emotive environments. e.g. playing an active part in resolving employee relation cases involving mediation or supporting teams to rebuild following bereavement or a loss of trust
- Analyse different forms of complex workforce feedback to develop, implement and evaluate action plans for positive change
- Develop and present business cases where necessary including relevant research evidence, options appraisals, costs, and risk/benefit analysis
- Be responsible for the formulation of long-term, strategic development plans and programmes for the whole organisation, adapting as necessary to emerging needs
- Ensure that the organisation continually strives for improvements in OD through acquiring a continuously deepening understanding of business needs, and producing programmes of work to meet these
- Influence development of new policies in own work area and contributing to service development which may impact across the Trust
- Be responsible for the commissioning, tendering and purchasing of some services and physical supplies
- With Assistant Director of OD, be responsible for ensuring that departmental costs are kept within budget constraints and cost improvement plans are reviewed regularly
- Lead on the consultation, co-production, piloting and roll out of specific OD projects and workstreams aligned to the OD strategic objectives. These workstreams may be owned by OD or by another team, in which case a consultative business partner approach would be more applicable.
