Job summary
This locum position offers an excellent opportunity for a Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with an interest in Oncology to join a high-performing, patient-centred service. The post holder will contribute to the delivery and continued development of a comprehensive gynaecological oncology service, working closely with regional cancer centres in line with established network pathways.
You will be responsible for the assessment, diagnosis and management of women with suspected or confirmed gynaecological malignancies, supporting the Trust's commitment to achieving national cancer standards.
The successful candidate will play an active role in service development, pathway improvement and quality initiatives, with opportunities to develop subspecialty interests such as minimally invasive surgery, outpatient hysteroscopy, or vulval disease depending on service requirements.
The gynaecological oncology team is led by Miss Rajee Vijayanad (Senior Consultant) and supported by Mr Ayo Olumbori (Associate Specialist), Mr Saleh Hazbun (Outpatient Hysteroscopy Lead), and an Oncology Clinical Fellow.
Main duties of the job
The role includes a mix of clinical duties and supporting professional activities. Typical responsibilities include:
- Outpatient 2-week wait clinics
- Theatre sessions
- Delivery of endometrial diagnostic services
- Ongoing management and follow-up of oncology and general gynaecology patients
- Participation in Cancer MDT meetings, ensuring timely case discussions and adherence to national cancer standards
- Collaborative working with tertiary gynaecological oncology centres to support the safe management and referral of complex cases
- Administrative duties and SPA sessions
- Participation in audit, research and quality improvement aligned with national guidance
- Contribution to service development, including pathway redesign and early diagnosis initiatives
- Teaching and supervision of junior doctors and allied healthcare professionals
- Engagement in activities that enhance patient experience and the efficiency of cancer pathways
