Ophthalmology Glaucoma Failsafe Officer (PCEU Windsor)
The closing date is 08 March 2026
Job summary
PLEASE NOTE: This post is based at Prince Charles Eye Unit, King Edward VII Hospital, St Leonards Road, Windsor, SL4 3DP.
We are seeking a highly organised and proactive Ophthalmology Failsafe Officer for Glaucoma to join our busy department. In this key administrative role, you will ensure the smooth and efficient management of the Glaucoma patient pathway - from referral through to discharge - supporting timely, safe, and high-quality patient care.
As the central point of contact for all administrative aspects of the Glaucoma service, you will work closely with clinicians, the clinical administration team, and the wider multi-disciplinary team to ensure patients are booked appropriately, monitored effectively, and seen within clinically required time-frames.
You will take the lead on referral processing, appointment tracking, RTT pathway validation, and data quality assurance, escalating capacity issues when needed. The role also includes supervising team members, supporting service improvement, and maintaining excellent communication with patients, carers, and internal and external stakeholders.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong administrative experience in healthcare, proven customer service skills, and the ability to manage complex information while prioritising competing demands.
If you are passionate about supporting patient care, enjoy problem-solving, and thrive in a fast-paced environment, we would love to hear from you.
Main duties of the job
The Ophthalmology Failsafe Officer for Glaucoma is responsible for proactively managing the entire glaucoma patient pathway, acting as the first point of contact for receiving and acknowledging referrals, ensuring all urgent and routine referrals are correctly booked, and tracking patients from referral to discharge to maintain safe, timely care.
The role involves validating pathway data, monitoring outpatient activity, escalating overdue appointments or capacity issues, and maintaining high standards of data accuracy across Trust systems while providing knowledgeable, customer-focused support to patients and clinicians.
The post holder also undertakes systematic DNA monitoring, including re-booking, clinician liaison, and high-risk DNA investigations, ensuring appropriate follow-up decisions and documenting actions in line with glaucoma governance processes.
Alongside these duties, the officer supervises and allocates work within the administrative team, adheres to Trust SOPs to ensure consistent processes, and contributes to service quality through accurate reporting, identification of pathway risks, and compliance with mandatory training and infection control standards.
