Job Summary
Participates in cleaning, stocking up and other non-clinical duties as required to ensure the smooth running of the department.
Cleaning of Equipment as per Infection Control Guideline.
Transfer of patients within the unit and other areas of the hospital and escorting patients to other departments
Maintaining stock areas clean, tidy and maintaining stock supplies on the unit.
The post holder is expected to be flexible, multi task, and have the ability to work within a team and independently without direct supervision.
The post holder will be expected to provide a vital supporting role to the Emergency Department carrying tasks which will include but not limited to patient and non patient portering, general cleaning and housekeeping duties including making hot drinks for patients post procedures
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES Communication
1. Communicates effectively and respectfully with patients, their relatives/visitors, ward/team leaders and all members of the multi-professional team utilising both verbal and non-verbal communication methods.
2. Answers the telephone and assist with enquiries in a polite and professional manner ensuring a positive impression of the department/organisation and self.
3. Works as an effective member of the team and demonstrate understanding the role of the team work in delivery of high understanding of the possible reasons for complaints and works in a manner which minimises such events seeking the support and guidance of the Registered Nurse as required.
Clinical
1. Maintains standards of infection prevention and control within the boundaries of your responsibility.
2. Ensuring that the equipment e.g. wheelchairs and trolleys are sited in designated areas are clean, maintained and available for use at any time.
3. Participates in moving and handling patients in a manner which is safe for both the patient, colleagues and the post holder in accordance to Trust Manual Handling Policy and patients individual risk assessments.
4. Participates in cleaning, stocking up and other non-clinical duties as required to ensure the smooth running of the department.
5. Ensures own practice adheres to Trust Infection Control policies and Procedures at all times e.g. Hand Hygiene.
Role Responsibilities
1. Demonstrates understanding of the boundaries of the Facilities Assistant role and the ability to assertively refuse to undertake skills /tasks which fall outside of role e.g. undertaking patient assessments, neurological observations.
2. Transfer of patients within the unit and other areas of the hospital and escorting patients to other departments.
3. The role will include cleaning of equipment, maintaining a tidy environment, stocking up and maintenance of stock levels on the unit. It will also involve liaising with clinical engineering to ensure the maintenance of equipment and IT to ensure the maintenance of IT equipment.
4. Develop working knowledge of Emergency Department Equipment and accessories and ordering systems on the unit and in the Trust.
5. Develop and maintain high standards of working relationships with patients, staff, managers as well as other departments in the Trust.
6. Attend yearly statutory training, which will include but not limited to Minimal Handling, Infection Control, Basic Life Support (Resuscitation), Fire and Health and Safety.
7. Ensuring equipment e.g. wheelchairs and trolleys are sited in designated areas are clean, maintained and available for use at any time.
8. Ensuring that the department corridors, unit entrances and exits are kept clean and clear of obstacles and rubbish.
9. Participates in audits of stock on the unit and maintenance of stock areas on the unit ensuring adequate but not excessive supplies are maintained.
10. Ensure the unit meets and maintains a high standard of cleanliness and tidy at all times. Participates in cleaning, stocking up and other non-clinical duties as required to ensure the smooth running of the ward /dept.
11. Contribute generally to the establishment and the development of a quality service.
12. Any other duties as required or delegated by the Nurse in Charge.

Infection Control
