Band 8B Head of Treatment Planning (Radiotherapy Physics)
The post holder will lead, develop and be responsible for managing the Treatment Planning elements of the Radiotherapy Physics department, ensuring safe and effective service provision to the Berkshire Cancer Centre.
Provide advice on appropriate treatment techniques for individual patients to medical staff and other healthcare professionals.
Participate in, and the supervising of dose calculation procedures and the ongoing quality control of both treatment and planning equipment. Research, design, develop and implement new and innovative treatments and techniques.
Contribute to equipment management and the procurement of new radiotherapy equipment.
Date of interviews: Wednesday 12th and Friday 14th November at the Berkshire Cancer Centre, Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading (please note: interviews will be face-to-face/in-person only).
Main duties of the job
The post holder will act as a Medical Physics Expert in areas of Radiotherapy for which they are responsible. They will liaise as appropriate with BCC Management Team and other senior staff within the Trust. They will advise the Head of Radiotherapy Physics on developments required to meet the needs of the treatment planning service and will plan and implement developments as required.
The Radiotherapy Physics Section provides an expert physics service to the Radiotherapy Department of the Berkshire Cancer Centre (BCC).Through their unique understanding of the physical science and cutting-edge technology that underpins the radiotherapy process, the Section designs, builds, develops and delivers the framework of radiation dosimetry, radiation safety, treatment planning and treatment unit quality assurance that enables medical staff to provide a safe, accurate, state-of-the-art patient treatment.These tasks are undertaken both at system-wide and individual patient level.
