Paediatric Epilepsy Clinical Nurse Specialist

Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic band 7 nurse who acts as a positive role model and advocate for the Paediatric Epilepsy service within Royal Berkshire Hospital.

You will be able to provide specialist, interdisciplinary education and training to other staff, children and young people and their families and wider personal needs.

Works strategically to influence the development of the service both locally and nationally.

Leads clinical audits with Epilepsy

Participates/facilitates/undertakes research and projects centered around Epilepsy and the improvement and change within this service

Main duties of the job

  • The post holder will support the Epilepsy Clinical Lead and their team to ensure that their workstream of programmes are planned and managed effectively and take the lead in assisting in their successful delivery

Managing a complex caseload of CYP with epilepsy who require co-ordination of care across multiple settings and services.

Undertaking wider system-level roles to support horizontal and vertical integrated care:

o Ensuring, and establishing where required, relevant referral pathways into services such as mental health care, tertiary neurology and neurodevelopmental services.

o Supporting transition of YP into adult epilepsy services, specifically YP with complex epilepsy requiring a multidisciplinary team approach.

o Liaising with community paediatric services in the management of CYP with learning disability and autism (LD&A). For example, this may include establishing and supporting any out-reach clinics in residential school settings.

o Developing a sustainable model for training schools in the use of emergency medications
